City Hall starring Kim Sun Ah and Cha Seung Won

Film and drama superstar Kim Sun Ah, much-loved for her 2005 smash drama My Lovely Sam Soon , stars in City Hall, a hit 2009 drama about a lowly government employee who rises to city mayor. Film actor Cha Seung Won delivers a charismatic (and arguably a breakout) performance as a cynical, arrogant politician who takes a young woman from a small town and turns her into a political powerhouse, perhaps falling in love along the way.

Shin Mi Rae (Kim Sun Ah) is a junior secretary in the mayoral office of provincial town Inju City. After years of fetching coffee and running errands, she has no plans beyond remaining neutral amid the political machinations and corruptions swirling around her. Enter Jo Gook (Chae Seung Won), a high-profile government official and rising political star who is sent by his mentor, for mysterious purposes, to take over the position of deputy mayor in Inju City. Jo Gook's ultimate goal is the presidency of South Korea. He's none too happy about being banished to a small town, but with his usual sangfroid he quickly adapts, and eyes Mi Rae as a potential pupil and asset.

When Mi Rae wins a beauty pageant and demands the prize money which her corrupt boss has stolen, she is promptly fired. Jo Gook decides that now is the time to take action. Taking her under his wing, he propels her into the political arena and introduces her as the newest candidate for the mayoral office. Now, with Mi Rae's friends, neighbors, and many voters rallying around her, the race is on to find out just what Mi Rae is made of. Up against her ex-boss and other corrupt government officials, will she still have it in her to win the heart of the reserved, arrogant Jo Gook?

Kim Sun Ah is a genius at creating strong vibrant characters that you love to root for. Here she builds the model under appreciated good girl who is taken for granted and used before finding her feet and true inner strength. Great comedy, nice romantic chemistry with co-star Cha Seung Won, compelling story and many moment that gave tears, but not just sad ones. City Hall is probably tied for my favorite Sun Ah drama. Definitely watch this. It doesn't disappoint.

Excellent story and acting. Kim Sun Ah and Cha Seung Won had wonderful chemistry. Sun Ah has a very pleasant voice. The three villains acted their parts so well I still don't like them. Have watched it many times and bought video (subtitles differ in many cases). Hope there is a "City Hall" Part II with same perfect cast but give wonderful Joh Guk a new hairstyle. Joh Guk is the perfect loving, considerate, protective, intelligent and manly man. The "Body Parts" contract a touching love letter, the proposal the most romantic ever. Have watched many Kdramas - this is my super #1 favorite w/o just two unfortunate and disturbing parts - the Che Gueverra/ Communist propaganda and homosexual scene. Bought the soundtrack just for Ho Ran's beautiful song. Also, would someone tell me why Joh had her kicked out of the beauty contest - I still don't get it. Also, why did the barrett become a pin? Watch!

This movie makes me laugh and cry. At times I get happy then sad. Some may think this to be a silly woman's mind. Yet whenever I feel sick and I am hurting I come back to this movie. It makes me feel alive for some reason. I get to see some made up characters story of setting goals and staying with them until they succeeded. This with problems and situations not being in their favor. To me it reminds me nothing is worth having without the struggle;and this makes me happy. I've sit an ponder how in a world filled with struggle;how do anyone get back up again. Then I know you have to want to live. I want to experience everything life wholes for me with hope. This movie the people of the town makes me want to live in a town like this. Even if it is make believe. Great five star's for this one.

I have to say, after seeing so many ambiguous endings, I love how this one really lets you know that the main couple is going the distance. It was hilarious, but the parts I remember the most are the ones where I cried right along with the main characters. I like the fact that there weren't any real "bad" guys... and how even the ones I disliked the most (*cough* fiancee *cough cough*) end up being not so bad at the end. A great drama, and I'd recommend it highly to anyone. There's a reason Kim Sun Ah is my favorite K-actress!

OMG this drama is probably THE most funny one I have seen, I thought Protect The Boss was heelarious but hell its got nothing on this drama, im barely on episode 5 and I cant stop laughing!. Kim Sun Ah and Cha seung won are two of my favorite actors and to see them together like this is a dream come true, all in all this drama is one of THE best I have seen, great actors, great storyline and funny as hell! XD *kudos!* Man why is Cha seung Won so damned sexy!! I would totally have his minions xD I think the DOko jin character fit him better than this one, but still his acting is superb! <3
