Surgeon Bong Dal Hee starring Lee Yo Won and Lee Bum Soo
The Grey's Anatomy of Korea, Surgeon Bong Dal Hee was one of the highest rated dramas of 2007. Compelling and fast-paced, it charts the lives, careers, and romances of a group of doctors at a hospital where private and professional lives are hopelessly entangled and hospital politics collide. Lee Yo Won of recent über-hit Queen Seon Duk and Lee Bum Soo of 2008’s On Air star.
Despite a serious heart condition that has hindered her throughout her life, Bong Dal Hee has become a first-year surgical intern against all odds. She quickly draws the scorn of skilled cardiac surgeon Ahn Jong Geun (Lee Bum Soo) for her inefficient ways, which are tied to her secret health condition. Lee Geon Wook (Kim Min Joon) has recently divorced fellow surgeon, Jo Moon Kyung (Oh Yoon Ah) after he discovered that another man had fathered their child. When Geon Wook begins to fall for Dal Hee, he finds himself at odds with Dr. Ahn. Dal Hee's condition deteriorates under the grueling conditions of the job, but she is determined to become a doctor no matter what the cost.

All I am going to say...Is NOTHING like Grey's Anatomy ..I wish they stop comparing Korean medical drama to Grey's Anatomy..Is not the 1st time I read summary comparing to GA...When it come to the principle or technically to medical procedure ..I wanted to throw up ><...Is also not my 1st time seeing a Korean medical drama with some much blunder ...Is like their make this drama without no medical research...What they need when they do this kind of medical drama is medical technical advisor...The drama itself was errrrrr!!!
I honestly believe that the creators of this drama did a lot of work in verifying authenticity of medical situations, but as previously mentioned in reviews, there are some major flaws in basic safety procedures, i.e. protective eyewear, gloves during blood draws, etc. Unlike other dramas where only one little tube is seen, there's a multitude of tubes in situations that would demand them. Well done. As for the romantic aspects, I'm having a bit of difficulty seeing ANY romance at this point. She pulls off the natural nurturing quality really well, but I just don't see that as romantic. I also have to say that as a viewer pulled in by the character, I'm more pulled by Dr. Ahn, even without being exceptionally handsome. Skill matters, whether it's acting or anything else.
Too much yelling! They shouted in almost all episodes, even in patients' rooms when they were asleep! Other than, it was a very good and very informative medical drama.
I am enjoying this drama. I love that they have tried to be as technically/medically right has possible. However, there were some troubling things that I hope are not true/indicative of Korean hospitals. For example, not wearing gloves when dealing with blood products, even when the patient was a known AIDS patient. Doctor basing treatment and deciding on procedures based on emotions, YIKES. I understand that some of this might be due to trying to raise the dramatic element. All in all, an enjoyable, medical/workplace drama. Reminds me of the amazing Obstetrics and Gynecology Kdrama. Also why does Dr. Ahn yell in every scene, gah I am not a fan of Lee Bum Soo's acting, he was also a yeller in Giant.
On episode 12 and so far, liking the drama. Dr. Ahn and Dr. Bong are well-crafted characters. But I feel like at least 25% of their dialogue are yelled out.
What a nice drama. Nothing surprising. Great characters. Reminded me a bit of Grey's Anatomy - a nicer, kinder Grey's Anatomy. This is worth the watch. I think it's a feel good drama.
