Surgeon Bong Dal Hee starring Lee Yo Won and Lee Bum Soo
The Grey's Anatomy of Korea, Surgeon Bong Dal Hee was a huge hit and one of the highest rated dramas of 2007, with ratings of over 20%. Compelling and fast-paced, it charts the lives, careers, and romances of a group of doctors at a hospital where private and professional lives are hopelessly tangled and hospital politics collide. Lee Yo Won of recent über-hit Queen Seon Duk and Lee Bum Soo of 2008’s On Air star.
Bong Dal Hee (played by Lee Yo Won) is a first-year intern whose inefficiency quickly draws the scorn of skilled cardiac surgeon Ahn Jong Geun (Lee Bum Soo). What Jong Geun does not realize is that Dal Hee has become a resident in defiance of a serious heart condition which has sapped her strength all her life, and is determined to become a surgeon at all costs so that she can help people.
Lee Geon Wook (Kim Min Joon), meanwhile, is a doctor who recently divorced his wife, fellow surgeon Jo Moon Kyung (Oh Yoon Ah), when he discovered that their child had been fathered by another man. He begins to fall for Dal Hee and quickly become rivals with Dr. Ahn romantically and professionally as both are drawn to Dal Hee. Dal Hee's health, however, is deteriorating under the grueling conditions of the job...

I am enjoying this drama. I love that they have tried to be as technically/medically right has possible. However, there were some troubling things that I hope are not true/indicative of Korean hospitals. For example, not wearing gloves when dealing with blood products, even when the patient was a known AIDS patient. Doctor basing treatment and deciding on procedures based on emotions, YIKES. I understand that some of this might be due to trying to raise the dramatic element. All in all, an enjoyable, medical/workplace drama. Reminds me of the amazing Obstetrics and Gynecology Kdrama. Also why does Dr. Ahn yell in every scene, gah I am not a fan of Lee Bum Soo's acting, he was also a yeller in Giant.
On episode 12 and so far, liking the drama. Dr. Ahn and Dr. Bong are well-crafted characters. But I feel like at least 25% of their dialogue are yelled out.
What a nice drama. Nothing surprising. Great characters. Reminded me a bit of Grey's Anatomy - a nicer, kinder Grey's Anatomy. This is worth the watch. I think it's a feel good drama.
Los escritores coreanos nos hacen llorar de verdad con sus dramas. Este drama me encantó por su mensaje de superación ante las adversidades. ! Soy BORICUA !
