Jumong starring Song Il Kuk, Han Hye Jin, and Oh Yun Soo
From the writers of All In and Damo comes the tale of a hero who is born into a troubled and fragmented country and rises to become a prince who will unite the land. Starring lauded actors Song Il Gook (Lobbyist, The Kingdom of the Wind) and Han Hye-Jin (Be Strong Geum-Soon!), Jumong is one of Korea's most popular and well-made historical dramas.
In 37 BC, a boy named Jumong is born in the small independent state of Buyeo, at a time when the Korea is torn by the conflict between ancient kingdom Gojoseon and Han Chinese forces. The son of a rebel leader, he is taken in by by King Geum Wa and raised as his son. Coming of age in these chaotic circumstances, he soon finds himself an unlikely prince and forced to compete with his brother and rival Dae So (Kim Seung Soo) for the title of Crown Prince. On his way to fulfilling his destiny to become the first king and founder of Goguryeo, Jumong will have to choose between the love of two very different women, the wise, beautiful So Seo No (Han Hye Jin) and the innocent, charming servant girl Bu Yeong (Im So Young). Based on actual tales of Goguryeo's founder found in ancient Korean transcripts, this drama brings the legendary figure Jumong to life in rich, riveting detail.
Also known as The Book of Three Han: The Chapter of Joo Mong. Visit our friends at Drama Wiki and Hancinema for additional information about this drama.
This drama is so far the best i've watched i can't decide between Jumong and Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum)! It's really sad yet fascinating that Soseono, Ye Soya and Jumong's fates cross, Jumong was involved with both Soseono and Ye Soya, he could only have one. Which was uncommon (in my opinion) at that era because king's usually had more than one wife.
But it's still sad that in the end, Soseono left Jumong. But i guess that was for the best. In the beginning i was rooting for Soseono more than Ye Soya but now, i love both of them! Nut i can't say that i'm happy with the ending...it's just so sad...
I rarely give 5 stars because no drama is perfect, but Jumong is as good as it gets. Amazing, amazing characterization and highly addicting. Made a fan out of me of Song ll Guk & Hae Jin. Fair warning, if you start watching this drama, you're looking at sleep deprivation and completely ignoring your responsibilities (family, work, school, hygiene) lol...Jumong has the best elements in a K-drama; it grips your heart and doesn't let go. You'll experience a wide range of intense emotions as you follow the characters, which speaks to the actors' skills in emoting and communicating even without words. Although I have enjoyed countless k-dramas, few have stayed with me as this one has. Watch Jumong; it's a treat to your senses! (Update: Another drama, Crime Squad, features some of the Jumong cast: Song ll Guk & Ji Hyo)
Jumong is to blame for my k-drama addiction...it should come with a warning label. What I love most about this series is that although it is 80+ episodes long, it didn't feel like it. The characters are utterly mesmerizing and the subplots are so freaking compelling that I just couldn't stop watching. Overall, it's also very well acted. I took away one star only because there were a couple things that needed improvement. A few other reviewers have already mentioned them, like Jumong not looking for Lady Yesoya after seeing her at the tournament, all those scenes with people sitting around tables, and some of the battles looking too small when in reality there were hundreds of thousands of soldiers. But, don't let that deter you from watching. This is hands down one of the best historical dramas ever created.
What happened to episode 12? The only thing on that episode had nothing to do with the drama. It looked like a preview of an upcoming show. Has anyone encountered this?
Just finished this memorable drama. Another WINNER!! All the elements of an unforgettable 81 episodes of everything from action, intrigue, romance, laughter, heart tugging emotions, history of Korea etc. Loved it!! My recommendation?..... Watch it!! You'll add it to your list of "most loved historical dramas"!
Sigh how sad they always had each other in their heart but they gave up their love the the nation...sigh....i wish they could have gotten each other sigh...
A stunning historical epic chronicling the life of one of Korea's greatest rulers, Yi San was the most watched drama over the length of its entire 77 episodes.
Musicians and lawyers collide in a cheerful romantic comedy about a woman who decides to change her life from being a high society wife to a rock star.
