Sophisticated and chilling, Soul (Hon in Korean) is a rarity among Korean dramas (and the first of its genre for DramaFever!) a successful horror series! Part murder mystery, part paranormal tale, and part old-fashioned thrills-and-chills. Rookie actress Im Joo Eun, garnered rave reviews from viewers and critics alike, while megastar Lee Seo Jin (hugely popular for his roles in dramas such as Damo, Lovers, and Yi San) co-starred as the male lead.
Yoon Ha Na (Im Joo Eun) is a seemingly ordinary high school student until strange changes begin happening to her, leading up to the death of her twin sister. After struggling with uncontrollable changes within her, Ha Ha realizes that her sister's spirit has inhabited her body and joined with hers, giving her superhuman abilities.
Meanwhile, a mysterious serial killer has begun stalking young girls in the area. When successful criminal psychologist Shin Ryu (Lee Seo Jin) is called in to investigate the murders, he discovers Ha Na's abilities and begins using her as a catalyst for his own kind of justice. Further mysteries rapidly arise, leaving many questions to be answering in this unique and exciting drama.
Psychopathy!! This is a good drama that kept me on the edge of my sit ...In this drama you would fine, juvenile delinquency, people with lack of remorse, not only will you fine watching this drama psychopathy but also sociopathy...It has a bit of everything..So hold on because is a bumpy ride...
This was a very intriguing drama indeed. When the spectars are about to appear 'like in most horror flicks' they bolster the scene with foreboding music. I comment on this because in most HF's it is overdone and cheesy. Here it adds to the intensity of the scenes being played out. Analogous to the grudge, Ha Na's sister played a convincingly menancing Wraith. The way she goes about dispatching her victims was quite unsettling. The intrigue comes in the guise of Shin Ryu, who's mind control therapy makes you wonder if it was the Wraith or subliminal suggestion that caused the deaths of those victims. In the process you begin to learn that the true monster of the series is not the Wraith at all. What a twist, this drama does a good job keeping you on the edge of your seat. Nicely done.
This show is fantastic. Even though the summary on the page seems like it has spoilers for the show, it doesn't. Great atmosphere and acting throughout.
What a wild ride! Lee Seo Jin and Im Joo Eun are superb as the leads, but there are a couple equally outstanding supporting roles as well. Kim Gab Soo as Baek Do Shik is far scarier than any ghost. The guy is truly unforgettable. I was also riveted by Park Gun Il as Jung Shi Woo. Who knew that his real claim to fame is as a member of some K-pop boy band called Supernova?!? Park Gun Il is a talented actor and VERY easy on the eyes. He's definitely found a new fan in me. : )
If you're looking for a change of pace from melodramas, rom-coms, and "Flowers", this is IT. Soul is eerie, thought-provoking, violent, heart-wrenching, never a dull moment, high quality entertainment and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I have never seen another K-drama of its kind.
You can take this drama as a straight horror tale if you want to, and it certainly works that way, but you're missing 99% of the content if you do. It makes full use of every component of drama - music, acting, writing and special effects - to make a riveting story an instrument of a much deeper exploration. It isn't just a drama, it's an experience, and if you let it in, it will change you.
It made me think and feel so many things on so many different levels that I don't think I can go into them all here, but if you are interested, I wrote a review in two parts on my blog, http://mihansa.net/hon-soul-mid-series-korean-drama-review/
If you are looking for light entertainment, this isn't it, but if you want a full course drama meal, take a seat...
I really loved this drama never a dull moment. I think that Im Joo Eun's acting is really tremendous that she needs more recognition. I watched her in the majority of the shows she was in and I am in awe with her talent. This drama was really strange, new and unique in k-drama. I wish it would've had more episodes.
This drama was very thrilling!!! The way the drama itself built up all the suspense was amazing! The special effects were all very well done too. All of the actors totally lived up to their roles. It was all very believable! In this drama you really used your mind for most of it and it made you question who really was the psychopath. Overall it was a very interesting drama and I hope to see more horror dramas on Dramafever!
I picked up this drama expecting to be scared out of my wits, only to be pitted with an altogether different experience. It does start off with that horror genre vibe, especially with all those make-you-flinch-and/or-jump-out-of-your-chair moments in episode one, but gradually breaches a more philosophical territory. It explores various complex concepts such as justice vs. the law, the death penalty, and rehabilitation of past offenders. The horror/supernatural element merely helps illustrate these matters, and isn't really the focus of the show. Also, what's more endearing are the characters. There's none of that irritatingly perfect, grounded in morals and all that is good character in this show; each character seems to embody some dark facet of society and really lets it loose for us to see. Thought provoking, and wonderfully acted. It's a refreshing change from the norm in kdrama land.

Stylish, bittersweet, and lovely, starring two leads with chemistry so intense that it led to an offscreen relationship, the drama was an easy hit and is not to be missed.
A delightfully twisty story of a woman who, choosing to marry beneath her, falls from princess-status to peasant-status, and then rises again like the proverbial firebird.
