My Love Patzzi starring Jang Nara, Kim Rae Won, and Hong Eun Hee
A retelling of a popular Korean folk tale, My Love Patzzi takes the traditional Cinderella story and turns it joyously upside down. Jang Nara of Successful Story of a Bright Girl and Kim Rae Won of Love Story in Harvard head this delightfully tragicomic reworking of fairy tale conventions.
Quick-tempered Song Yi (Jang Nara) and sweet-natured Hee Won (Hong Eun Hee) are best friends as children...until Hee Won steals Song Yi's crush. From then on, the two become life-long rivals. After losing her job, Song Yi is forced to accept a job offer from Hee Won at the amusement park where she works. Humiliated once again with her job as the park's mascot, Song Yi crawls her way out of a bad situation by finding a different job at the park and things seem to be looking up, but everything changes when her old crush, Hyung Sung (Kim Rae Won) reappears. Things become even more complicated when a weird chain of events puts the park owner's son, Seung Joon (Kim Jae Won), into Song Yi's arms. My Love Patzzi is the classic tale of the evil, charming princess and the rough, kind-hearted "stepsister" that reminds us how looks can be deceiving.
This is only so so, nothing to brag about. I do like that the setting was in an amusement park, but the concept was the same, same evil best friend attempting to keep the other friend from getting the prince,..nothing different.though as someone pointed out earlier, why did she continue to be friends and live with Cruella, is beyond me?
This is a cute drama 2 watch if you need a time filler, but don't expect 2 much. What can U do in 10 eps? There was no real character development. If there were less: not-so-dramatic pauses in the dialogue & long reflective stares, more focus could have been on expounding the characters. 4 example, Hee Won was evil w/a grudge against Song Yi but it was never revealed why. Why did she not want Song Yi in particular 2B happy? She had no friends, yet everyone inherently liked her. How/Why? Song Yi is supposedly outspoken/fearless yet she constantly let Hee Won punk her. The contradiction here is so puzzling till it’s irritating. I also didn’t like how Song Yi took such advantage of Hyun Sung who turned out 2B quite a sweet guy, though the heart condition thing seemed so random. He was always running all over the place & smoked (WHAT?!?). Still I gave it 3 stars cuz the ahjumma was hilarious, it was short & had a cute ending.
This was the first KD I saw Jang Na Ra in and I love the roles she takes on. This was obviously her earlier work and she only gets better! Kim Rae Won delivers as always and his stint in the military made him come back more intense and believable. This story line was cute and I was compelled to watch the next episode.
The drama was really great until the last episode. It's good that she was able to make up with Hee Won but I was really disappointed because I wanted more romance between Song Yi and Hyun Sung and the ending seemed so silly and childish. I guess she made up her to stay but only to stay friends with the two of them :(
I tend to like dramas that don't take place in cities. So once the drama began, I enjoyed the fact the the main setting was the theme park. However after a while I began to feel like there should be something MORE to the whole plot. The wirters could have taken Kim Hyun Sung's heart condition and made it more meaningful or having to do with something in their childhood. And as for Song Yi's friend, Hee Won I don't understand why she got to be happy or even why Song Yi still stays as her friend. What upsets me the most, though, was the ambiguous ending.... WHY?!
Sidenote: Jang Nara has not changed at all. She's aging gracefully. Her acting in Baby Faced Beauty was kinda mild. KRW and KJW have become better actors, too. I realise now that Kim Jae Won reminded me a lot of Lee Min Ho in this drama: body structure, facial structure, way of talking etc. I was also surprised to see Kim Seung Joo (My Fair Lady) and Kim Ha Kyun (SungKyunKwan Scandal) looking so young evn acting together. It was cool.
Jang Nara's so cute & Kim Rae Won's so handsome & Kim Jae Won has the most killer smile that melts my heart!..The 2 handsome boys with the cute girl!..& Jang Nara's "Sweet Dream" is so cute!...I don't know how come that people can't rate this drama high?! I found this as cute as "Full House"! Love it!♥
I liked this drama but expected more. Yang Song Yi & Kim Hyun Sung were great together but they weren't together as much as I would have liked to see. Hyun Sung's ailment was an interesting & gripping aspect of the story. Unfortunately, it wasn't focused on. Had it been written properly it would have made a big difference to the drama.
Rescues the prince and the prince is stolen from her by someone who is trying to keep her away from the prince. Yeah totally a Little Mermaid story. I haven't finished the series yet, but I won't be surprised if she turns to sea foam in the end. Nor will I likely watch it again. Catty friends are obnoxious.
