Chuno starring Jang Hyuk, Oh Ji Ho, Lee Da Hae, and Lee Jong Hyuk

With a powerhouse cast reuniting the leads of 2008's Robbers, Jang Hyuk and Lee Da Hae, and including Oh Ji Ho, breakout star of 2009's hit Queen of Housewives, Chuno garnered instant buzz when it started shooting, and became perhaps the most anticipated drama of 2010 thus far. Jang Hyuk, critically and popularly beloved for his onscreen intensity and versatility in dramas such as Thank You, takes the lead role of a hard-bitten slave hunter, while his Robbers co-star (and megastar in her own right) Lee Da Hae is a slave-turned-noblewoman.

Hitting the ground running with a highly unusual premiere rating of 22.9, Chuno only climbed in ratings, crossing the 30% mark with its fourth episode and maintaining over 30% ratings for all episodes since. High-budget and cinematically splendid, it takes the sageuk to new levels with its gritty-yet-romantic plot, explosive action sequences, and crafted production in everything from music choice to the stunning cinematography. Intense, compelling, and well-acted, its ratings have surpassed even those of former ratings giants Iris and Shining Inheritance, and it may well shape up to be the drama of the year.

Set during the Joseon (Chosun) dynasty, Chuno ("Slave Hunter") takes place in the world of slave hunters and slaves, and focuses on Lee Dae Gil (played by Jang Hyuk), a nobleman whose transformation from a kind lord to a ruthless slave-hunter unfolds with unflinching clarity. Dae Gil is a man of high birth and expected to uphold the family line, but when he falls in love with his kind, beautiful slave, Un Nyun (Lee Da Hae), tragedy strikes. Un Nyun loves him in return, but when Dae Gil's father finds out, he plans to sell her off. Desperate to help her, Un Nyun's brother Ki Yoon burns down the house, killing Dae Gil's parents in the process, and escapes, taking his sister with him.

Ten years later, Dae Gil has become an embittered, fearsome slave hunter, renowned for his skill and ruthlessness and bent on taking revenge for his parents' death. The one bright spot in his life, however, is Un Nyun, whom he is still in love with and has spent the past ten years searching for. Song Tae Ha (Oh Ji Ho), on the other hand, is a high-up official in the army until he is accused of a crime he didn't commit and forced to become a slave. Running away, his path intersects with that of Un Nyun, whom he tries to protect as they flee together. Dae Gil, assigned to capture Tae Ha, is on their track, and soon he is chasing them all across Joseon...

Chuno is also known as Slave Hunters or Pursuing Servants.

too many storylines theres just too many storylines in this drama. From the slaves, to lee dae gil, un nyun, politics side, the bad guys side, song tae ha, the other bad slave hunter...i could go on. If they could have focused on one storyline, the lovestory between un nyun and lee dae gil this drama would have been a hit. It started out strong but lacked a good ending. there was just too many storylines left open and not completed. At least the love story should have been the focus. I would have just loved this drama if it was. Dae Gil and Un nyun belong together. That should have been the focus.

Good but not a favorite It was good, the story line does drag quite a bit. I really love all the characters though. They are each played by their perfect match. Its funny, heart breaking, and a joy to watch. Fighting scenes are incredible. I recommend it, but it's not one of my favorites, and I would not watch it again. However I'm glad I did watch it. I also skipped a few episodes and didn't feel like I missed anything.

it's awful! awwww! the most boring drama ever.. its 24episodes I must have watched 4hours of it i did a lot of skipping and fast forwarding througout 24hours epis. (Sorry, I'm not a hater but this is how I fell about this series. I wanted to stop at certain point but I keep going wanting to see more... its dragging...it keeps going over and over....)stk stk.. dont' get me wrong I love Jang Hyuk I adored him because I've watched ' Thank You', and 'Successful Story of a Bright Girl', I thought he did a brilliant acting.

Meh Had the making of a good drama but did not live up to its potential. There was something lacking. It was hard connecting to the characters, cause their actions were stupid and made no sense. They just had to sneak another political infighting storyline into it, as is common in most historical dramas. I didn't like the female lead, didn't really care for the acting style, Jonny Depp, Pirate of the Caribbean style the male lead was going for. The only saving grace in the whole story was the potential love story between the main actor and the dancing girl, but alas, they chose not to explore that, and we had literally episodes of dragging, meaningless story lines.

Simply Fantastic!!! I don't know about some of these other comments, but I love this show. Chuno has far exceeded my expectations, and I'll be sad to see the final episode. Every character, musical choice and scenery brings something to the overall drama, and creating a fabulous tapestry of fine story telling. I originally saw Jang Hyuk in Thank You, and his range as a cheeky action star in Chuno is a complete 180 degrees from his character in that drama.

My Rating: Brilliantly dissappointing -- in a way! There's so much positive points to say about this Kdrama--from its casts, cinemograhics, action scenes, comrades relationship, but at the same time, there's almost equally enough negative points--from its lack of chemistry specifically between OJH & LDH, Un Nyun/Kim Hye Won lack of character importance to the overall story, and maybe a few minor ones that's not exaclty worthy of mention. But being a hopeless romantic, I did wish there were more romance. The most dissappointing was how much I felt cheated with Dae Gil's & Un Nyun's love story. Then again, Chuno isn't exactly a love story, now is it, so it's forgiven. Surprisingly, I sympathized Hwang Chul Woong & his disabled wife and in fact, I wished their story were emphasized more because it's probably where they could've developed more 'heart' behind that cold & heartless character of his. My ratings: A solid B! Despite enjoying the action-portion, I was overall dissappointed, but would still recommend it to those who enjoy historical Kdramas.
