Jewel in the Palace starring Lee Young Ae and Ji Jin Hee

Also known as Dae Jang Geum, Jewel in the Palace is arguably also the first successful historical feminist drama, retelling Jang Geum's rice to riches story during the Chosun Dynasty 500 years ago.

Jewel is the real story of Jang Geum, a young girl who is the first woman to become the King's supreme royal physician in a male dominated society. Behind her naiveté and childish eyes, lies an ambitious working girl with a 21st century mindset. See how Jang Geum goes from being a virtually abandoned child to becoming the King's doctor. This unforgettable drama of epic proportions tells the touching and tear-jerking story of a true underdog.

Also known as Dae Jang Geum or Great Jang Geum. Visit our friends at Drama Wiki and Hancinema for additional information about this drama.

"Jewel in the Palace" is fantastic! I was entralled and engaged in the drama every minute. The cooking and medical scenes are so fascinating! Its amazing to me how much I feel I have learned while still being entertained. I am truly a big fan of this drama!

Hands down my favorite K-drama to date. One of the few dramas I can watch over and over. Excellent acting, story, directing, and not to mention very educational.

Gets slow. boring and repetitive real fast. The story is compelling at first and I enjoyed some of the cooking scenes, but I lost interest as it went on. No doubt it's a well-shot series, but like one reviewer said, it lacks intensity. I also agree that if this is your first historical drama then it might do just fine, but after seeing such greats like Kingdom of the Wind and Jumong, this one pales in comparison.

So far, this is my favorite drama. I love it because it hit close to my heart and that's to always help those in need of help and by using traditional medicine. What you put in your temple can be good for your health or it can be poison to your health. AWESOME drama.

Damn This is my third Korean series I've watched and I suspect this one will be hard to beat. Pretty good suspense with what?..is this a cooking show? It has its sappy moments but keeps you hooked. Apprentice girls are terribly cute. Are girls so catty around the world? If only someone would post the historical notes for each program in English. Good sets.scenery Not too melodramatic. Sometimes wanted lady Choi to do her in Sad to see the series end.

I haven't have this hard of a time getting through a drama since Pink Lipstick. This drama is REALLY slow & downright dull to a certain extent. I really like Ji Jin Hee, but his air-time has been pretty limited up to this point. The lead actress (& I use that term loosely) has no range. This part seems to be too big for her. In my humble opinion, she is torpedoing this show & it in NO WAY compares to any of the dramas DF mentioned in the "More Dramas Like This" section!!
