Dandelion Family starring Song Sun Mi, Maya, Lee Yoon Ji, and Kim Dong Wook

This joyous, endearingly cast weekend drama is the story of three sisters and their ups, downs, and romances as they struggle with life, marriage, and work. Song Sun Mi (White Tower), Maya (Magic), and Lee Yoon Ji (Heading to the Ground) star as the three sisters (a socialite, an apparent failure, and a successful career woman). Kim Dong Wook, best known as the playful Jin Ha Rim in The First Shop of Coffee Prince, co-stars.

The Park sisters could not be more different from each other. Park Ji Won (played by Song Sun Mi) is the eldest, a charming, beautiful woman who apparently has it all. She married well after graduating from an elite college, but when her husband turns out to be demanding and perfectionist, her marriage turns to shambles.

Mi-won (Maya), the second daughter, is the exact opposite. Possessing neither the beauty nor the brains of her older sister, she fails the college entrance exam twice before finally passing. Once there, she gets pregnant with her free-spirited boyfriend and elopes with him in defiance of her parents. Suffering from a deep inferiority complex because of her sisters getting more attention than her while they were growing up, she struggles to raise her child with her husband.

Park Hye Won (Lee Yoon Ji), meanwhile, is the youngest daughter and as successful in her career as her eldest sister appears to be in her marriage. A driven workaholic, she has little time or interest in men, but when her mother begins setting her up on blind dates, she meets charming photographer Jae-ha (Kim Dong Wook). She is startled when he proposes to her not long afterward, but what she doesn't know is that Jae-ha's father has threatened to reposess his studio unless he gets married immediately. Jae-ha, meanwhile, doesn't know that he may have chosen just the wrong woman, for Hye Won has sworn never to get married after observing the misery of her oldest sister's marriage...

The main complaint that I have for any drama that features Lee Yoon Ji, is that there is never enough of her in it! How could an actress so universally loved and talented always end up being an aside to others whose characters and personalities rarely measure up to hers? This actress is pure golden sunshine wherever and whenever she appears. It's time that the producers of these dramas became aware of it...

I would consider this a classic family drama that has a similar pace to Smile, You. I found some parts of this drama extremely hard to watch (SPOILER ALERT: the abusive relationship). I think the overall message of the drama warmed my heart but if you are looking for something upbeat and funny- this is not it- watch Smile, You for that.

2/3rd of the way through and have enjoyed almost every moment of the series. The romance of the youngest sister is my favorite. I understand why the oldest sister is in her marriage and am quite surprised she was actually able to leave him. Why hasn't the middle sister been able to control her impulsive nature and develop some diplomacy during the time she and her husband were raising their son? But then if she had, there would be no drama. The whole family needs to go to family therapy.

Love the chemistry between Kim Dong Wook (Jae-Ha) and Lee Yoon Ji (Hye-won). Their relationship was the best in the entire show. They really should have had more screen time. It's unfortunate that they were filmed less as time went on because their main arc was more or less "resolved". Honestly, they could have just made the entire show just about Jae-ha and Hye-won by cutting out everything else. As for the rest, the Hye-won's mother was down right infuriating. Jae-ha's sister is like a storm that just waltzes in and out. Ji-won's husband is a straight up psychopath. It's been awhile since I've watched a drama that had characters that made me care enough to be mad. However, I felt 50 episodes was way too long. 30-40 would have been enough. Certain character arcs took way too long to resolve. At the same time, new arcs were introduced before some even concluded. In that sense, it was a bit messy and could have been handled better. Nonetheless, I enjoyed watching Dandelion Family from beginning to end.

Now I understand all the comments about the mother. Jfc, what is this disgustingly outdated stereotype people have for woman only living to become a dutiful wife. Tbh, this show's only saving grace is Lee Yoon Ji and Kim Dong Wook.
