For our high-school teenage audience, it was Lee Min Ho in Boys Over Flowers that turned you into drama addicts. For our slightly older crowd it was Rain in Full House. For the Japanese middle aged ladies, it definitely was Bae Yong Joon in Winter Sonata. For us, it was Lee Jung Jae in Sandglass (now that's old school!). It is with great pleasure that we present Air City, starring Jung Jae (playing Kim Ji Sung) alongside gorgeous Choi Ji Woo (playing Han Do Kyung).
The story line revolves around the security operations of Korea's Incheon International Airport, with smugglers, criminals and other related scum trying to get in and out of the country. Ji Sung is in charge of national security and his character portrays that penetrating intensity that Korean men are know for, that sometimes gets lost when watching boy bands like SJ on youtube. He is passionate and reacts on gut instinct, both at his job and at love. Do Kyung's character also displays features that I wish more main actresses would embody - a self assured leader, she speaks five language (hola mi amor...), and oversees the operations at Incheon. Of course, she has a troublesome past which gives her personality a deep and complex character. Why are broken people so much more attractive?
Enter handsome Lee Jin Wook (playing Kang Ha Joon) and Moon Jung Hee (Seo Myung Woo) and you have an assortment of current and past lovers mixing and matching. It turns out there is zero tolerance for breaking the law in the airport but in love there are no rules. Visit our friends at Drama Wiki and Hancinema for additional information about this drama.
Loved cast, the writing, the location. All were amazing [esp the case files]. The chemistry throughout the whole cast was on. Funny too. Lee Jung Jae reminds me of Lee Sun Gyun[Pasta] with similar acting style who make it look very easy. Great ending....showing the continuity of the location
I hate the ending, there are some movies/dramas that an open ended ending with questions is appropriate and even add to the viewing pleasure, this is not one of them it is simply annoying, unsatisfying, etc, etc, resulting in making the little and I mean little bits that were okay less so
.
Product placement on a huge scale (Incheon Airport). Large cast of competent actors. Many incidents of airport security, operations, and economics. Stories of sad partings. Consistent and serious drama from beginning to end. Peppered with humor and action scenes. Enjoyed it a four star level and think others will enjoy if rating boosted, so five star.
The interesting aspect about this drama is seeing how NIS and airport employees work and the challenges they face regarding security. There is romance thrown into the storyline just to change it up a bite. All the characters were likable expect for Kang Ha Joon. He seemed to come off as annoying and arrogate at times. Air City is an drama similar to Hotelier and On Air but really nothing special. The ending was also unsatisying.
I was enjoying all the ins and outs of this drama, but the ending is sooooo not good because it's one big disappointment. The cancer thrown in didn't add anything worthwhile to the plot. This drama had lots of potential. It could have been better. I feel like writing a different ending just to satisfy myself, but I don't have ownership of this work. That said, don't let me discourage you from watching it. You may see things differently from me. If so, then the writer will have pleased someone with a perspective different from mine. Enjoy part or all of it.
Lee Jung Jae is soooo good. I have never liked Choi Ji Woo.. but in this drama she is much better. Joo Sang Wook comes in a small part, but he still looks so handsome..I know Lee min Wook is the second male lead, but wish they had someone a little older there.. this guy looks like a kid (and his eyes look weird, like squint eyes!) I don't like the ex-girlfriend having the cancer part.. he could have left without the cancer!!! too much unnecessary drama!
I enjoyed this right up to the extremely lack-lustre ending. A few loose ends and the good guy meanders off into the sunset. It's as if they just got tired of making the show and gave up. Ugh. The spy guy reminds me a lot of the actor that plays 'Burn Notice' - not sure why.
As often as I've been through an airport, I never think about security other than getting through the airport scanner as quickly as possible. I liked the portrayal of people working together at an airport to insure safety and on time performance. The romance and Self discovery was good. I wish American TV would get approval from the FBI/TSA to try its hand at this type of drama. I liked all the stories and, yes, I love Lee Jung Jae and Choi Ji Woo. I disagree with some of the other reviews, I think Choi's stilled performance is within keeping with her character. She is so pretty, I can watch her in almost anything. I love Lee's voice. I wish I had a recording of him reading a book because I would listen to it forever!
Sibling rivalry takes a violent turn as two brilliant surgeons are driven over the edge by envy. Cain and Abel was very popular in Korea this Spring, and it’s easy to see why.
Possibly the ultimate K-drama, Sandglass became a cultural phenomenon in 1995. Shops and businesses closed early so workers could get home in time to watch it.
