Goong starring Yoon Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon

An instant classic upon its broadcast in 2006, this is perhaps Korea's most famous re-telling of the Cinderella story. When a plucky poor girl is engaged to the country's arrogant Crown Prince, will true love result? Airing to ratings of almost 30%, Goong, also known as Palace or Princess Hours, propelled both of its almost unknown leads to superstardom, and redefined Korean dramas with its high-budget sets, beautiful cinematography, and young, charming cast, as well as its boldly imaginative premise. Utterly compelling and addicting, Goong is a refreshing blend of the inner workings of royal life, youthful romance, and endearing comedy.

In an imaginary world, modern-day Korea is run by a constitutional monarchy which is facing crumbling popularity and power after the recent death of the reigning King. In a move to shore up their status and restore confidence in their ability to rule, the Royal Family decides to marry off the Crown Prince, Lee Shin (Joo Ji Hoon) prior to his ascension to the throne. To their horror, however, they discover that the dead King's father, Shin's grandfather, had before his death made a pact with a commoner that they would marry their grandchildren to each other, and that Shin is for all intents and purposes betrothed to a girl neither he nor they has ever met. The intended bride?

Headstrong, klutzy, poor-girl Shin Chae Kyung (Yoon Eun Hye), who comes from an average family and is attending high school oblivious to the fact that she's engaged to the country's Crown Prince. Her life is about to change forever, however, as the Royal Family swoops in and carries her off to the palace for princess training. Haughty, arrogant Prince Shin has no intention of making things easy for his commoner fiance, however, especially as he's half in love with childhood friend Min Hyo-Rin, and Chae Kyung soon finds her work cut out for her in adapting to palace life and trying to please the Royal family.

Her optimistic and upbeat spirit however capture the attention of Lee Yul (Kim Jeong Hoon), the other contender for the throne who returns to Korea after 14 years in England, and who, in trying to sway the Crown Princess in order to undermine the Prince, finds himself falling in love with her for real. Among the plots, deceptions, and expectations swirling around them, can the Royal couple see each other for who they are, overcome their differences, and fall in love?

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Wow. This drama is GENIUS. The storyline is absolutely amazing and the cast is adorable. I undestand why a lot of veiwers hate Yul, but I like his character at the end. Its actually his mom's fault for brainwashing him to take back his crown. I even love Yul's mom's character at the end because she was "reborned". Yul is cute. :) hahaha. The main couple, Shin and Chaekyang, are very adorable. Chaekyang is very cute and has a lot of courage; her spirits lights up every room. Shin learns to be more open and caring because of her. Grandmother's personality is so sweet and her laugh fills people with happiness. Overall, I love every character from the two main ones to their servants. The servants are so funny and nice. I recommend this drama for EVERYONE.

a classic that everyone should see. i fell in love with this lighthearted kdrama instantly after the first couple of episodes. the female lead is so carefree and hilarious-- the perfect heroine in my opinion. the best part about goong was the fact that one minute, i would be filled with anger.. the next i would be tearing up... and then i would find myself laughing at chaegyung's simplicity. it may not be the newest kdrama out there, but i think everyone should open up a spot in their hearts for this loving and imperfect plot. it's perfect for beginners and kaddicts likewise. i still wish deep down that they had continued with the same cast for the sequel. goong may not be perfect, but it definitely has my vote.

Lovingly This LIGHTHEARTED drama was enjoyable to watch. The main leads were wonderful. Ms. Yoon & Mr. Joo, I always enjoyed his/her dramas. They are both wonderful actors and one should watch this drama. Learn about high class status(cold, arrogant etc) vs common middle class, which always seem to deliver kindness, dignity, compassion, caring, heart and love. Enjoyed it.....Oh! yes Ms. Yoon is PG remember their espisode 23 thats when it happened. When they married again on the last episode = Baby arriving. Awsome drama.

Great Drama I got hook right away. I felt bad for Yul at the end. In my opinion I don't think Chae Kyung is pregnant. How can she, when her and Shin been seperated? I would recommend this drama.

Good for Beginners Although Goong doesn't have the most refined actors, teleplay, etc it's still a precious part of pop Kdrama culture. I think for any Grimms-romantic, Goong is to good place to start. This is my 3rd time watching this series. The cinematography, set and costume design are as still luscious. I've come to appreciate the political conflict more. Lastly, I've even come to (wait for it) understand Hyo-rin. I know, I know. I also don't think Ji Hoon was as stale as an actor as he was green in his skills.

My opinion I think that this is a great drama funny, dramatic, sad, and very entertaining it was all i was looking for in the next drama i watched. i haven't finished it yet and the situation always seems to be going from bad to worse and shin and chae-kyung have some really serious comunication issues. P.S. i absolutely despise yool, it's rare for me to to hate boys too, also his mom is a manipulative scoundrel.

My Rating: Irresistibly ADORABLE & FUN but... ... I will forever HATE Yul! My blood boils whenever I think of him but moving on. Goong is such a light-hearted and fun Kdrama to watch! Yoon Eun Hye is the perfect Chae Kyung and she shared a fantastic chemistry with Joon Ji Hoo! Fortunately, this is one of those mainstream popular Kdrama that I actually enjoyed watching and the storyline was entertaining, to say the least. Of course, there were a few angst here and there--specifically with Yul and his unforgiving mother, but it's ALMOST forgiven. I still really don't understand why those two wanted to ruin Lee Shin so much. Then again, I did forward most of their scenes so I might've missed out on their reason but thinking back now, it was probably better I forwarded their scenes. It made the drama as a whole that much more enjoyable for me. Much more enjoyable than BOF and more entertaining then Shining Inheritance. I'd definitely recommend GOONG! My rating: A- / B+
