Ireland starring Lee Na Young, Kim Min Jung, Hyun Bin, and Kim Min Joon

Adopted into an Irish family as a child and raised in Ireland, Lee Jung Ah (Lee Na Young) is devastated when her entire family is suddenly killed after her brother becomes involved with terrorists. Racked by guilt, she decides to journey to her homeland to search for her real family. She quickly meets Kang Guk (Hyun Bin), a kind, solitary bodyguard who offers to help her in her quest. Fate has her cross paths with her older brother, Jae Bok, when she saves him from an accident, but they part not knowing they are related. Jae Bok returns to his life as an intelligent slacker trying to aid his love, a kind-hearted porn actress, to support her family. All four go about their lives, unknowing the gravity this chance encounter will have on their lives.

Ireland relies on few traditional drama tropes, but instead achieves cult-classic appeal through its raw character portrayals, resonant writing, and psychological depth. Character and conversation driven, it's an unforgettable and bittersweet story of love, destiny, and family.

IRELAND? Who named it?. Actors were acceptable, even Hyun Bin wasn't great ... was really depressing! Subtitles...horrible. NOT RECOMMENDED... This is my first negative review on all the dramas I've see... and I've seen A LOT!

How can Totuta do this kind of translation and still get paid. Can somebody explain the ending?

10 minutes into this Series the Subtitling is horrible. Who puts "Meaningless chatter" on a whole conversation between the Director and the Porn actress. Missing like 12 sentences. It happens again in the Gym at about 24 minutes between two main characters of this series exercising and again a whole section is skipped and just blows it off by just subtitling it (She is teasing her) not typing in the actual I count 14 sentences! Again at 42 minutes while the family is watching a TV show together, again more than 8 sentences totally ignored! What the HECK!. Like who is this subtitling group Totuta and how in the heck did they get away with subtitling this way? I am not wasting my time watching the rest because of the crappy subtitling.

I liked the concept and the male characters. They felt real. Ladies struggled with these roles. I couldn't touch either of them. Disappointed.

Would have rated it higher, but large chunks of dialog was not sub-titled, and thus, I was not able to decipher the nuance of the character's feelings/expression.

Some of it was slow moving and plodding. FF'd to the end and watched half of it backwards. It moved me about half way through. I thought the relationship between Lee Na Young and Kim Min Jung was touching. Though he played a real gigolo. Lot's of damaged people trying to heal themselves, that's what this movie is about. Were they healed in the end? Can't say...ending was ambiguous.

Its a drama with complex characters, and gives you a touch of reality that is hard to argue. I liked it.

I think the storyline wouldn't be that complicated if this drama would have more episodes. That way, all characters and their demeanors would be more understandable and easier to follow. Aside from that, I think the performances are good enough. I personally like the last two episodes. It's good to have actors playing different kind of roles from time to time, so they don't get entrapped on "blue princes" and "cinderella princesses" with a neverending crappy happy endings. :P

I feel like the actors' chemistry wasn't paired correctly. Lee Na Young and Hyun Bin's characters interacted in a way that felt more believable, this also applies to the latter couple. I think if the plot were to work out the way it was set up, The male roles should have switched positions. I'm sorry to say, but Kim Min Joon and Lee Na Young's characters did not click together as sucessfully as Lee Na Young and Hyun Bin's characters.
