Hotelier Starring Bae Yong Jun, Song Hye Kyo, and Kim Seung Woo
This award-winning drama is as classy as it is classic. Starring hallyu icon Bae Yong Jun and Song Yoon Ah, Hotelier is a compelling look at four people whose lives collide within the inner workings of an upper-class hotel.
Suh Jin Young (Song Yoon Ah) is devoted to her job as a manager at Seoul Hotel, but trouble strikes when the hotel's beloved owner dies of a heart attack and the hotel begins struggling. The hotel’s rival, Kim Book Man (Han Jin Hee), decides that the time is ripe to attempt a takeover and enlists ruthless attorney Shin Dong Hyuk (Bae Yong Jun) to help. The owner's wife, meanwhile, decides to call on the one person she believes can help: Jin Young's ex-boyfriend Han Tae Jun. A previous manager of the hotel, Tae Jun had left the business after being framed for misconduct. Soon, attorney Dong Hyuk goes head to head with both Tae Jun and Jin Young, who will do anything to restore their beloved hotel. Sparks begin to fly and soon romantic entanglements abound throughout the group.

From the first episode, you are drawn into this fascinating "hotelier" world. The characters and their complicated relationships will keep you watching for the entire series and the romantic tale will linger in your memory for a long time. It's made me quite the fan of Bae Yong Jun.
This is my third Korean drama and I ave enjoyed them all. I am not all to familiar with the Korean culture, but why is it they have no problem showing women being shoved, abused, and derated and almost never show public displays of affection? Out of the shows I have watched they have maybe shown the couples kissing maybe five times. Lots of hugging but hardly any holding hands. Is it truly more acceptable to be violent than loving and endearing to one another?
We have all seen all different types of entertainment but this is one of those that will stick out in your memory for yrs to. Because it give u a chance to see first hand how just meeting a person can change ur whole perspective on life. Id like to say tku to the writers, actors, actress and all those who helped bring this story to life. You have renewed my spirits an giving me a better view of possibilities in ones life. I want to sincerely thank from the bottom of my heart.
The curtain goes up on a classic with a great ensemble cast of lovable and memorable characters caught up in an ambitious grand hotel story. If watching a K-drama can give you that warm and fuzzy feeling, this one delivers. I don't know how he does it, but found myself rooting for BYJ's layered Dong Hyuk character to get the girl long before he deserved it (I'm not saying whether he does or doesn't). This one stays with you - highly recommended.
I'm not sure which drama or dramas encouraged larger communities of loyal, Korean drama fans. (Those outside Asian and Asian-American communities.) However, I can see why this one continues to be called 'classic.' It's not just a romance, but a true look at how challenging the workplace can be. I enjoyed how I, as a viewer, could see the personal lives of each character. While not the break- neck speed of a drama like 'Wild Romance,' it still manages to stand out over time. Cheers.
Hotelier is a classic. It has none of the slick production values of present-day K-drama, but relies solely on character development and the portrayal of hotel life and behind-the-scenes dedication and devotion of operating a quality establishment.
For me, the three leads (Bae Yong Jun, Song Hye Kyo and Kim Seung Woo) were superlative. BYJ did Hotelier after Winter Sonata - I think he was better here. KSW is excellent - he's always reliable and knows how to underplay his hand to finesse his role. Of particular interest is SHK. This is the beginning of her career and she is unbelievably good - her performance leaps off the screen. She steals every scene she's in, and rightfully so.
Hotelier shows its age but holds up well. The OST is good - and interestingly enough, STING is used.
The wonderful aspect of Hotelier is to see these actors in the earlier times of their careers - they, and this drama, have withstood the test of time. Quality remains quality.
I watched this drama for the second time, and I loved it even more. Everything about this drama was perfect. I love Bae Yong Jun, he is one of the BEST, both Bae Yong Jun and Song Yoon Ah were perfect for their rolls, great cast, beautiful story line, and such a wonderful romance ...... nothing to complain about. Highly recommend this drama. LOVED it.
