A gripping drama of friendship and bravery, Comrades is the story of a band of brothers during the Korean War. The remnants of a North Korean squad, sent on a desperate mission into enemy territory, are forced to face their worst fears as the opposing side closes in.
Lee Hyun Joong (Choi Soo Jong) is a South Korean squad commander made cynical by the ongoing war. He only cares about his men, whom he is intensely devoted to protecting, and ending the war as fast as possible - even if it means taking on dangerous missions. The South Korean Army has just pushed the Northern Communist forces back across the 38th parallel, and Hyun Joong is ordered to move forward and spearhead an offensive movement through enemy lines. The advance is too rapid and ill-prepared, however, and soon they are trapped in enemy territory without backup. Meanwhile, Hyun Joong glimpses Lee Soo Kyung (Lee Tae Ran) on the battlefield, his former love who is now a lieutenant in the North Korean Army.
A Huey helicopter shown in the Episode 4 was not introduced until1960 - a decade after the time period of this drama. Fine script, action sequences and acting add up to an absorbing war drama.
why did they have to kill the deserters? imprison them for life time is enough. how could the sergeant kill a once member of his squad who had help them many times? the General too? Aren't they more animals than the deserter Siongil? well, this is war. an inhuman human endeavor.
As I am watching this drama, tear are falling..Is beautiful made but sad..A few years ago I saw "Flags of our fathers and "Letters from Iwo Jima"... This movies are more or less historical ..Just like this drama..Is a must to watch and learn the history...Like Bertrand Russell once said.."War does not determine who is right - only who is left" ..Someone wrote on they comment box (GeneralMengYi) that this drama "This KD truly brought out the emotion and depth of these actors in ways I've never seen in American films."..I highly recommend that "GeneralMengYi" see the American films "Saving private Ryan & We were soldiers & Black hawk down"..Then she wouldn't compare this drama with the American war films and our American actors..
This is by far the best depiction of combat in a movie that I've ever seen. I believe that this was even more heart wrenching than, "Band of Brothers". I liked the positions both combatants and anti-war protestors portrayed in this KD and yet the deserters got what they deserved and the PD's did not bow to political correctness! This was a first time I've seen these actors (with the exception of Lee Duk Hwa) and this KD truly brought out the emotion and depth of these actors in ways I've never seen in American films. Truly a must watch for those who appreciate great acting and historical war content.
I enjoyed this. Although they made the story unbelievable at some points. Especially ep 19. The General surrenders , and the sniper squad knows exactly where they are going and sets up ambush even before the escorts and the Defecting General get there? Wow that was such crap.
I love this drama! it expresses so much feeling and can bring anyone to tears, i cried a lot when Yang Sang Gil and Yeom Ha Jin died because Sang il tried to save him
This drama was absolutely amazing! I could really feel what each person would've went through. The characters were the best part of this drama. I feel the unique characters showed that even different people from different personalities/perspectives can be "brothers" who would risk their lives for one another. Watching this drama was truly a remarkable experience!
I loved the soundtrack!!
This is my 3rd time watching this FANTASTIC war drama. I'm a veteran soldier who been through it all in the recent conflict in the middle east. I personally know what these men have went through. There were many times that brought tears to my eyes. The last part of this drama is hard to watch as it brings back so much memories of my last deployment overseas and how many good friends/comrades I have lost. As a leader, the greatest loss is to have your men fall under your command.
Also known as The Legend of the Patriots, it shows that throughout wars, there are always people affected heavily and can be changed. Love it but many people died
I'm only into the first half of Episode 1. COMRADES has some of the most intense battle scenes I have ever watched, including "Saving Private Ryan."
Finished Episode 1. Awesome and terrifying night battle scene when Red Chinese Army first attacks. South Koreans run out of ammo and must fight back with knives. I don't see how any ROK soldiers survived.
Absolutely great. You had better have a box of Kleenix handy for the end.
