Mary Stayed Out All Night starring Jang Geun Suk and Moon Geun Young
With a story that quickly gathered a cult following, Mary Stayed Out All Night is a screwball romantic comedy about how much can happen in one night. Moon Geun Young (Cinderella's Sister) and Jang Geun Seuk (You're Beautiful) won several awards for their portrayal of a young bohemian couple in love.
Mae Ri (Moon Geun Young) has a deadbeat father with whom she's spent her entire life on the run from debt collectors. Upbeat despite her situation and able to survive on almost no resources, her life starts to change when she runs into (or rather, almost runs over) indie rocker Moo Kyul (Jang Geun Seuk). Almost as penniless as she is, Moo Kyul is happy in his life as a musician playing with his band on street corners and small clubs. The two castaways find a common bond and look out for each other. When Mae Ri's father hatches a plan to force her to marry wealthy young heir Jung In (Kim Jae Wook), Mae Ri turns to Moo Kyul for help. He reluctantly agrees to pretend to be her husband, and the two stage a mock marriage. After Mae Ri moves in with him, the two begin to find the home with each other that they'd never had before. Moo Kyul, scarred by his mother's abandonment, isn't ready for commitment however. As Jung In, suspecting that the marriage is fake, begins to pursue Mae Ri, their fragile happiness is tested. Can Moo Kyul step up and hold onto Mae Ri? Will Mae Ri trust him?
A too-cool-for-school musician with mom problems gets caught up in a deceitful act with a naive girl that he eventually falls for. Does this sound familiar? The funny thing is, this wasn't made much longer after he did You're Beautiful. Usually in K-dramas, the love triangle is part of the story. In this case, the love triangle IS the story. It's predictable, at times a bit on the cheesy side and some of the music gets a little tiring as its repeated through the show. But it's entertaining and kept me glued for a while.
i love Moon she is so adorable and a great lead character. Too bad she didn't pick the director but Jang was cool too. He seems to play the same static character in each drama he is in.
Lighthearted, adorable at times, sad as well. But that is life right? Geun Suk is a fantastic actor and stands out in ever drama he is in. Geun Young and Geun Suk made an adorable couple.
I really loved this drama! Its my second time watching it but its still awesome. I love the music the songs will be stuck in my head. The acting was amazing but you cant expect anything less from Moon Geun Young and Jang Geun Suk. The chemisty, the story everything overall was well done.My poor Kim Jae Wook, it seems he never gets the girl :( First in Coffee Prince then in Bad Guy now in Mary Stayed Out All Night. I just hope when he returns from the army he will get a lead because he deserves it! Episode 14 is Daebak so you know its a must watch since I use a Korean term!
was that her first kiss? i know she wasn't dating so much but you can kiss people without dating them. never mind answering that b/c i paused b4 the previews so i know it was now.
This was one of the first K-dramas that I watched, I shall say that this remains to be--pretty much--my #1 favorite drama. I would give it a 4.0-4.3 purely because it didn't feel like there was enough drama in it. Like it had a good amount of drama, but not enough to actually entice me like other dramas would. But, overall, with all the humor and quirky cuteness of the show, I would give it a 4.8.
