Dr. Champ starring Kim So Yeon, Uhm Tae Woong, and Jung Gyu Woon
Talented actress Kim So Yeon (Prosecutor Princess) joins forces with charismatic veteran Uhm Tae Woong (The Devil, Queen Seon Duk) and rising star Jung Gyu Woon (Loving You a Thousand Times) in this medical romance. With beautiful cinematography and endearing characters, this genre-crossing drama warmed the hearts of many viewers over its run.
When Kim Yeon Woo, a rising young orthopedic doctor, refuses to stay silent about her superior's malpractice, she is blackballed and fired. Desperate to find a job, she's finally taken on by Lee Do Wook (Uhm Tae Woong), the sardonic, demanding director of Taereung National Village. Do Wook was crippled years before and abandoned by girlfriend Kang Hee Young (Cha Ye Ryung). As Yeon Woo begins working at Taereung, the training center for the nation's Olympic athletes, she must adapt to unfamiliar work and surroundings. She is helped by Park Ji Heon, a brilliant young judo athlete. Ji Heon has been struggling to overcome his brother's tragic death, and finds hope and resolution in Yeon Woo's determination. Meanwhile, Do Wook and Hee Young must face their ghosts as Hee Young has become the swimming coach at Taereung and works under Do Wook.
This was a really drama that kept me on the edge of my seat to know what was going to happen next, not to mention the EYE CANDY in it as well. This drama made me laugh and cry a little as well. On top of that it hada great ending that I was satisfied with. Good Going.
There really isn't much of any depth in this show to speak of, despite wandering into more serious territory several times throughout the length of the story. For the most part it stays as a relatively upbeat and lighthearted rom-com. I can only give it four stars because the story is a bit lazy - it never fully develops any of the characters and fails to stay serious long enough to really mull over any of the serious issues it dabbles with. Park Ji Heon often comes off as strangely immature, if cute, for his age and Kang Hee Young's character is like a dark cloud through the drama. Kim Yeon Woo and Lee Do Wook were my favorite characters by far. Jung Suk Won also puts in a solid performance as Sang Bong. If you just want to watch a light, fun story with a few plot twists and some medical terminology do try this one.
I'm really annoyed at the reviews that compare this drama to House. This show is absolutely nothing like House. Dr. Lee Do Wook is a completely different type of character than Greg House. Do Wook is a stern no nonsense boss but he's got a heart of gold underneath and is a really sweet endearing character. The only thing he has in common with house is they are both drs and walk with a cane. I really enjoyed what seemed to be a House parody in the first episode where Do wook pops pills in the car and they turn out to be vitamins. That was adorable. Overall a really enjoyable drama. I loved all the characters and the story.
Like this story. It took me a couple of weeks to finish but worth it in the end. There were parts that I did not care for but overall a nice story with a good ending. If you are looking for alot of romance or alot of Judo competitions this is not for you. But if you are looking for a show that will leave you feeling satisfied in the end please watch this one.
I passed this one up a few times but after watching Prosecutor Princess again, I was impressed with Kim So Yeon enough to give this a try. I'm so glad I did! All of the actors were superb. Story was light and entertaining but written well enough that I finished this one in 2 days....much to my surprise. I must confess, you'll be hard pressed to see as many beautiful athletic actors in one one show. That was a bonus! Enjoy.

A warm-hearted, endearing tale of a woman who is pursued by four men, Star's Lover was particularly popular in Japan and was called the second Winter Sonata.
