Gourmet Starring Kim Rae Won and Nam Sang Mi

Gourmet is a modern comedy set in the realm of the top echelon of Korean culinary arts. After he is adopted as a child by famous chef Mr. Oh, light-hearted Sung Chan grows up in the world of cooking. Bong Joo, Mr. Oh’s biological son, is raised alongside Sung Chan and expects to inherit his father's famous restaurant, but instead Mr. Oh announces that his heir will be decided by a cooking contest.

Before the contest can be completed however, tragedy strikes, causing Sung Chan to leave behind his life as a chef, while Bong Joo stays behind more determined than ever. The question of who is the better chef among the brothers remains unanswered as times passes. Will Sung Chan ever return and face his brother? Who is truly destined to follow in the steps of their father? One of the most popular dramas of 2008, Gourmet is a light-hearted comedy in which food is life and the kitchen is a battlefield.

I like cooking and this drama shows how creativity is powerful in cooking too. We also get new recipe . As usual Kim Rae Won shows his wonderful talent and the movie is exciting gives a wide range of knowledge on Korean cooking. I should say all the characters did their part well.

All actors and actress acted great, story line great, even though there are some slow points, but the overall story is about relationships and forgiveness and working together. IT shows that without each other we are not complete, just like ingredients used in making a dish. Great cooking drama.

I LOVE FOOD so I expected to love this drama. I didn't. But there was enough to like. All the scenes about the sourcing, making or eating of food were great and the acting was good. A big distraction for me was typecasting: the father/head chef, Min Woo and Suk Dong all played similar characters in other dramas. Maybe if I hadn't already seen those dramas this one would seem more original. However, my real complaint is the uneven writing and character development. Most of the relationships were beautiful to watch but, after developing them, the writers just let some relationships and characters abruptly disappear with no reason. Also, at a low point in Sung Chan’s life, his love interest was absent without explanation, reappearing later with no mention of the incident. It's like the writers were having blackouts. I stuck with the drama only to be disappointed by the last 2 episodes which were repetitive and unbelievable. Still, due to the acting and some refreshing relationship moments it wasn’t a total loss.

i don't know if i like the show for itself yet. i just watched it b/c of kim rae won and this was the only thing he was in that i didn't see. i know i don't like that jealous older brother, he just really got on my nerves & i didn't like him. i know you can't like all the characters but he just really got under my skin.

I watched this on disc from Netflix. The title was The Grand Chef. I was absolutely hooked on this show. There wasn't anything I didn't like about the show and plan to watch it again.

I'm so glad I ended up watching this drama. Loved the actors, the stories, the food, and the history surrounding the story. It made me want to learn how to cook every dish shown. It will be in my top 5.

But, I'm growing a bit weary of the majority of the female characters being so annoying.
