The Duo starring Chun Jung Myung, Lee Sang Yoon, and Han Ji Hye

In the tradition of Hong Gil Dong comes another swashbuckling tale of a bandit hero who fights for the people. Chun Jung Myung, who shot to popularity with his intense turn in 2010's Cinderella's Sister, takes the lead, while established actress Han Ji Hye (East of Eden) and Lee Sang Yoon (Life is Beautiful) stars opposite him. A fusion sageuk (historical) that combines action and romance in a fun blend, The Duo has been an easy hit with audiences.

Chun Doong (played by Chun Jung Myun) is born into a noble family, but is switched at birth with the son of a peasant family. Growing up poor and downtrodden, he gradually grows angry as he watches the oppression around him, and becomes a heroic outlaw. Meanwhile, Gwi Dong (Lee Sang Yoon), the child he was switched with, grows up as a privileged nobleman, and becomes a head of the police. The two men, unconsciously living each other's lives, are total opposites - one stands for justice through the law and the other seeks justice by breaking the law. Fate has something else in mind for them when they both fall for the same beautiful woman (Han Ji Hye)...

When you think about it, all characters in this drama are pitiful. This alone is reason to watch this drama as it takes the Korean Drama art form to new heights.. I found this drama easy to turn-off; however, it was still a good drama. I give Jung In Ki the Best Actor award for his performance as So Dol. I just loved his "hound dog" face and voice. Chun Dong-ah's mother is the most evil character I have ever seen--she is loathsome. There were some clever sub-plots like the renaissance of Lord Kim's brother-in-law into a rice cake seller and henpecked husband. I kept waiting for the brother-in-law to save the day, but it wasn't in his contract.

A mother's"love" saves her son while sending another child to live a life of hell. Then , she seems to have received redemption at the end. The writers changed courses for the characters- love interests and attitudes were switched. The father said he would not choose his bio son. How awful. The ultimate insult was that the grandfather and others will now enjoy his child. Was there ever sunlight in the early scences? A perfect example of man's inhumanity.

The first few episodes when of the young duo and others were interesting. After those the series went dragging (ie, boring). This is in the bottom of my list of historical kdramas I've seen so far.

I was just very upset with the ending somehow it was incomplete jumping ahead on the story is not always good. but other than that its great and worth watching.

In episode 3, Chun Doong tells the Teacher he plans to make a better world thru his learning. Oh boy, from past kdramas, I know how these freedom fighters end up. I'll watch anyway because so far, it has all the ingredients for a great epic: pace, plot, acting, cinematography and music.

Liked the character development and story line. Hated the ending. Liked the young characters and their older counterparts. Didn't like that the physical resemblance was not there for the young and adult versions of same characters. Nice contrast between the have and have nots--clothing, food and drink, sense of security or lack of it, housing, vanity and humbleness, education. Enjoyed the humorous incidents. Good to see that time can change people's hearts for the better. Sad to see the resistance of those wanting to hold on to power without regard to other's misery. Too much fighting but glad to see the developments of friendships and people loving each other. Watch, it's worth it.
