In this true account of a woman’s six-month journey living life as a man, Helie Lee cuts off her hair, wears men’s clothes and moves out of her home to begin life as Harry in Macho Like Me. Helie’s motivation for this drastic move was inspired by many relationships with men gone awry. With friends Anna and Katie to document the change and her experience as a man, Helie puts on screen all of the things she needs to do to make the change.
Helie sets out to prove a point: that men have it better than women. However, she soon discovers that may not be the case and she finds herself with a new view that surprises her. As she works on a "better" life, she tries to pass herself off as gay, bonding with men through sports, and runs into an awkward and near disastrous encounter with a few macho guys. Through a moment of epiphany at the Playboy Mansion, she begins to see that men have it harder than she ever imagined. Views on men, privilege, and relationships are tested as this dynamic documentary shows a whole new side to the battle of the sexes.
*Edit*
It's an interesting documentary. Lee Helie seems like a born entertainer. I would have loved to have seen more of the actual documentary with some narration than what this presentation showed. I watched it all, laughing and nodding. Being a guy can't be easy, I love being a woman.
It definitely made me appreciate man all the more, I didnt know their siide of the story Lol XD. All women do is discriminate on them when they have so much on their shoulders already, my sister should totally watch this.
Hell, anyone should! This lady has done a superb job and not to say compeltely heelarious one at that! My respects for her!.
On this tiny planet 7 billion of us doing the stuff we do. Man or woman, humans are strange. But then whales are strange in their way. I hear tell there are hundreds of billions of galaxies in this universe alone. So don't take being human too seriously, and just enjoy the magic.
I thought she's really good at stage performance. The comedic timing is spot on. Other than that, I think she's being a bit exaggerated in how bad life for men is. If you like to emote and relate to other people then yes, life as a man would suck. On the other hand, if you're the type of person to lock yourself in a garage and tinker with gadgets then life as a man isn't that bad.
first time i see a show like this. pretty original... i had a great time and it's truly touching... i think men should watch it to feel reassured and women should watch it to understand men a little more... highly recommended! :)
I really admire her courage to undertake this change in her life and then present it in such an entertaining and insightful way.
I have started observing behaviors uncovered in this documentary that I would have never before :-)
