Warrior Baek Dong Soo starring Ji Chang Wook and Yoo Seung Ho

Rising stars Ji Chang Wook (Smile, Hero) and Yoo Seung Ho (You’re Beautiful, God of Study) show off their acrobatics and athleticism in this action-packed historical drama mixing traditional narrative tropes for a newer generation of audiences.

Based on a popular comic book series, Warrior Baek Dong Soo takes place during the Joseon Dynasty. Baek Dong Soo (played by Ji Chang Wook) and Yeo Woon (Yoo Seung Ho) grew up as childhood friends, both prodigies in combat. But fate had it that Baek Dong Soo would become the top swordsman in the land, using his expertise in combat to serve the King. However, Yeo Woon’s abilities would go on to serve a group of clandestine assassins whose aim is to overthrow the throne. The two friends-turned-rivals are at the very center of this sprawling, raging conflict that threatens to transform the entire nation.

since this is based off a manhwa, the story is pretty solid and well told. the characters are unique and the actors are good at portraying them. though, ep1 was too much for me too handle, there were at least 10 important characters that were introduced (and if you're not familiar with the actors, they will all look like middle aged men with beards) and if you're like me who are not good with memorizing korean names in one ep. then you're going to have a hard time. THEY WILL BE USED IN IMPORTANT CONVERSATIONS at around ep1-3, so if you just know them by their faces then good luck following the story. i suggest sticking through the beginning episodes and really pay attention because, it gets better when the story fast forwards to "12 years later"

I credit the villians in this Hkdrama for keeping it interesting. The plot surrounding the Sky Lord and den of assassins seemed to be more evolved than the quest of Baek Dong Soo becoming the kingdom's top swordsman. The antagonist definitely ruled the show. I was more drawn to the scenes showing the Sword Saint and the Sky Lord. The love triangle involving these two warriors showed more promise than that of the lead characters where there was absolutely 'no chemestry at all' (If you disagree I would like to read your thoughts on the matter). The subplot concerning Yi San fell flat, so be forwarned, do no watch the drama Yi San before this or you will be disappointed. Four stars for the supporting cast for the intrigue, suspense and quite honestly for moving the show along.

WBDS is a superlative sageuk. This is a story involving two generations of master swordsmen and young wannabes. It is riveting storytelling describing love, loyalty, devotion and treachery. The over-riding question of this sageuk is one of fate. Does one allow it to dictate your path or do you carve a new destination for yourself? The storytelling is fluid, the pace rapid - no lagging in mid-episodes. Spectacular locations, great special effects, fun and agile sword fights and a good amount of wry humor thrown in keeps this sageuk from being overly dark. The two boys are eye-candy and likable - the older cast are spot-on in delivering the goods. Choi Min Soo, in particular, just eats the scenery. The role of Chun the Sky Lord was absolutely tailored for him - he's crazy-good in this! Watch this - WBDS is terrific and the OST? Kick-ass! Added: WBDS is being extended to 29 episodes. Ep. 30 is a compilation and cast interviews.

I loved this drama! It gets a little slow around episode 26-27, but don't they all get a little slow around the end. I really would of liked Dong Su to end up with Jin Ju. I think they had alot more chemistry than he did with Im Soon. I really liked Choi Min Soo's character. He was perfect for the part. He really was just a no nonsense kind of guy. Oh and by the way, I see it's your birthday, so Happy Birthday Choi Min Soo. But as far as the story goes, it really has everything. Didn't mind the ending too much. I have to say, it's alot better than some of the ones I've seen.

Very very good. But again I can only give it 4/5 because chuno, illjimea, jumong and kingdom of the wind are all 5/5

I enjoyed this drama. Not simply because I love/lust Yoo Seung Ho (he is of legal age now i think) and Ji Chang Wook, but because this is the first time I have cried so much over the bad guys dying. I took one star back because of the ending. One of the characters did something I didn't expect and I found myself pressing fast fwd to see how the two friends handled it.

Historical k-dramas really don't appeal to me but I wanted to see Ji Chang Wook in another drama after seeing Bachelors Vegetable Store. He captivated me and I wanted more. This drama kept me wanting more and I loved every minute of it until the end. I am soooo angry at the ending. I lost respect for Cho rip. I hated seeing his face or hearing his voice during the ending so I skipped all his scenes. Yeo Woon & Baek Dong Soo had one of the best friendships even though it wasn't always obvious. The ending was very painful and emotional for me. So b/c of the ending my rating isn't high. I would have given at least 5 stars but the ending really broke my heart. But I still have to say this is a MUST see.
