Finding Face - a documentary by Skye Fitzgerald

Finding Face details the controversial case of Tat Marina, who was attacked with acid in Cambodia in 1999. At 16, Marina was a rising star in Phnom Penh’s karaoke music scene. She was coerced into an abusive relationship with Cambodia’s Undersecretary of State, and subsequently doused with a liter of nitric acid—allegedly by his wife—that disfigured her face. A decade later, despite the fact that there were multiple witnesses to the crime, no charges have ever been filed in the case.

Director Skye Fitzgerald and writer Patti Duncan bring to the screen what World Pulse Magazine calls a “startling portrait forever altered by an inhuman crime. While difficult to witness, this film’s harrowing story is deeply important to acknowledge.”

Thank you for sharing this documentary of Marina. The picture you have below the video is not of Marina, it's Touch Sreynich ... a victim of gunshots to her body and face.

This is so sad and made me angry because justice needs to be brought forward. I really felt the pain the family was in, and it really made me cry.

I truly wish Marina all the best, as well as, the many others with similar stories.

Third world issues. Similar stories in other countries where the systems are broken. People seek their own forms of retributions that end up being so brutal and inhumane. I feel for Marina and hope that her life continues to grow and eventually flourish.

Poor Marina! Her beauty destroyed together with her youth! but it's a relief that she didn't go blind like the other girl in this documentary. She still has her beautiful eyes, could still have a family with a cute kid! God bless her! And those who harmed her, who sow bad karma will reap bad karma! There's always justice in this world, but sometimes not right away so we can't see & then think that there's no justice! Yes, there is, I strongly believe!

The beginning is choppy, so is the cinematography and editing. But none of that matters if you move past it and go right into the human story, It angers me that such inhumane injustice exists. What can I do? What will we each one of us do to give basic human rights back to those that have been made victims? At the very least, hopefully this piece will inspire you to act out of kindness. But if it moves you to take a stand, that's even better.
