Stephane Gauger's directorial debut, Owl and the Sparrow, depicts the journey of an orphan girl using her wits to flee her constricting small-town world to make her way through the hustle and bustle of Saigon city. There, she finds a conviction to bring two lonely souls together, creating a new family for herself.
Tired of her uncle’s constant verbal abuse, a young orphan girl named Thuy (Han Thi Pham) decides to run away from her rural home to discover the streets of Saigon. On her own, the spunky and precocious 10-year old joins other children laboring as street vendors selling postcards and flowers. One day, Thuy comes across a dynamic and interesting woman named Lan (Cat Ly), a flight attendant involved in an affair with a married man. Soon after, Thuy meets Hai (The Lu Le), a zoo employee and jilted lover who mends an aching heart. Thuy strives to forge a romance between two lonely adults and form a makeshift family.

I loved this film. There's something about the camera work that made me feel like I was right there in the moment. So realistic in every way, from the locations to the amazing delivery of the characters in their roles; they did not seem like they were "acting" at all. The child actress was phenomenal and will touch your heart. Please watch this film--you won't regret it!
I almost bawled when she didn't want to go back home with her Uncle, and it wasn't the onions in my salad.
This film has a very raw feeling to it in comparison to the very finished k-dramas that are the focus of this site. The hand held camera work and the understated sound track contribute to a real feeling of intimacy. If you are looking for a slick, amusing romance, this is not for you. However, if you enjoy watching independent movies with a slightly slower pace, this truly sweet film will be well worth your time, Beautiful.
Its a very good story about a little girl with no family and finds redemption. I loe this movie i have seen it twice so far.
A cute story...I like how the young girl is the main focus rather than the adults.
I really enjoyed this movie. The little girl was so convincing in her part. And it moved along quickly so it doesn't lose your attention. Very enjoyable story. Don't miss it. Well worth watching.
