The Musical starring Koo Hye Sun, Daniel Choi, and Park Ki Woong
One of Korea's first musical dramas, The Musical stars a popular cast of Koo Hye Sun (Boys Over Flowers), Daniel Choi (High Kick Through the Roof, Baby Faced Beauty), Park Ki Woong (A Man's Story), and musical actress and former Fin.K.L member Ok Joo Hyun. The story of a leaving a safe career path to follow your dreams even if it seems crazy is what makes The Musical sing.
Eun Bi (played by Koo Hye Sun) is a medical student with dreams of becoming a musical actress. She quits medical school and starts auditioning, but lacking the proper training she fails every time. She finds an ad for a male musical performer and dresses up as a boy to the audition, but Yu Jin (Park Ki Woong), an investor for the musical, sees through her ruse.
Frustrated, she crosses paths with Bok-ja, who claims to be a musical instructor, and Hong Jae Yi (Daniel Choi), a musical composer who thinks Eun Bi lacks talent. Still, Eun Bi refuses to give up on her dream.
Aww, so many are saying shes a bad singer, or that shes not that good xD but! She actually debuted as a singer before in yg, soooo she has qualifications, and shes not bad :)) I like her voice x]
The acting was OK. The story was pretty good BUT how was the lead chosen for a musical when her singing was less then adequate. I continued to watch hoping for an explanation on why they thought she was the right one for the lead. IT NEVER HAPPENED! This is at the bottom of my list.
I felt like I was watching a high school amateur show. The story was very immature for an entire adult professional cast of characters. Go Eun Bi's character was the center of the drama and her character was pathetic. The emphasis on her hoodie/sneaker wardrobe and milk deliveries had no place in this drama. It was cute in BOF because it was a cast of teen age kids. A music dream? Her character couldn't sing or dance and she never took a lesson. Love affair? It was more like childish and unrealistic forced love scenes. Professional adults playing kids games ? How awkward!! The script had no logic. How did this ever get made into a drama?
At first I didn't like it. But it grew on me. It is your typical drama but its good for a second chance. There are a lot of loose ends but you can work through it. Most of the viewers are right the lead is annoying but I think she's adorable. So my personal rating (not by rhe stars) is 6.5/10. Also I think Yu Jin is adorable.
First off Daniel Choi is a cutie, I could watch him read the dictionary and I would be content but boy, even he and the great 2nd male lead couldn't save this one for me. It started with a nice premise but then it just went all over the place. Then Eun Bi just got more and more annoying. I don't know if I blame the writers, the director or the actress. In any case, it was painful to watch as I was rolling my eyes every time she opened her mouth to sing. I was expecting her singing to get better and it really didn't. It was totally unbelievable that she would be picked to play lead in any musical imo. I didn't understand what the two male leads found attractive about her either. I pretty much threw up my hands in disgust after the 10th episode. Stay away unless you're a huge fan of the lead actress.
Finally we see who she really likes. Unti now l I couldn't figure out who she really liked the songwriter or Jin. So far I am enjoying this drama, it's kind of slow for me but ok. I don't really like the females in this drama and Eun Bi acts so childish. Im on episode 13 and will watch till the end hopefully it has a good ending.
I am a little taken aback by the negative reviews. I loved loved this drama. It is not a Musical but rather a drama on the casting of a Musical. What I liked the most was (***********okay spoiler alert**********) the budding romance portrayed between the innocent inexperienced Go Eun Bi and the somewhat experienced Hong Jae Yi. Albeit his experience, he also becomes like a child next to her and she finds herself experiencing these emotions that she did not understand. That was well written, cute, sweetly portrayed and fun to watch - great job writers, actors, actresses and directors and so forth! I hope I get to see more dramas like this.
I love the concept that is driving the protagonist, "follow your dreams, not what people expect of you..." but the storyline is clearly dragging and i think the writer is confused as to how she/he is going to wrap up everyone's "FORCED" relationships. > < Please, please do not destroy this potentially great drama.
