What's Up? starring Im Joo Hwan, Daesung, and Im Joo Eun

From the writer of Korean drama classics such as Sandglass, The Legend, KAIST, and A Man's Story comes a drama about the trials and tribulations of students enrolled in the theater department of a university. Im Joo Hwan (Tamra the Island) shot this drama before leaving for his military service, and he is joined by Big Bang's Daesung, Hon's Im Joo Eun, Spy Myung Wol's Jang Hee Jin, and talented musical/drama actor Oh Man Suk. Equally dark and uplifting, this emotional drama sucks you in right away into the lives of six freshmen as they cross paths and come together during the most important time of their lives.

Jang Jae Hun (Im Joo Hwan) is a high school dropout who roams the streets at night with his two best friends pickpocketing drunkards. He accidentally causes an accident that leads to the death of a stranger, who turns out to be singer Park Tae Hee's father. Park Tae Hee (Kim Ji Won) lives in the countryside with her grandfather, and inherited her musical talents from her father. Ha Do Sung (Daesung) composes songs in anonymity as rock star HADES. Having been abandoned at a young age by his ambitious mother, he tries to live quietly without drawing attention to himself. Kim Byeong Gun (Jo Jung Suk) is the odd one out in his family of businessmen, wishing to pursue a career in musicals - despite his debilitating fear of performing in front of others. Eun Chae Young (Jang Hee Jin) is the experienced actress, having been in the industry for 10 years. However, she has the desire to prove herself on the musical stage, rather than a movie actress with a pretty face. What she doesn't expect is to be challenged by Oh Doo Ri (Im Joo Eun), an equally talented actress who prefers to spend her time playing first-person shooting computer games than rehearsing.

These young adults end up together in the musical department of Haneul Arts University, and find themselves under the guidance of unconventional professor Sunwoo Young (Oh Man Suk). With each passing day, they get a chance to learn what it is to be a 'star,' and to prove to the people around them that they can succeed in their chosen path.

Fantastic characters. Great back stories. Could easily be drawn out to more episodes with more production numbers. The series is coming to a close to soon and I want to see so much more of each character.Hate to see it just stop, there is to much more that I want to know. UPDATE...... I have just noticed that they have changed the number of episodes to 20 instead of the 18 originally announced.. I am not sure if this will be enough ! UPDATED: The finale episodes were disappointing! Story lines were not completed! To fill time to many flashbacks were inserted. With the time and energy that went into the eighteen prior episodes, the writer through together an ending that was not only lacking but redundant and undeserving to the actors that gave such great performances. What was the story on the ghost in the red track suit? Was it ok for Haiti's to be blackmailed. What was the over all message that the writer was trying to get across to the audiance? etc...etc...etc! Very weak ending!

This show started out with such a strong story line and a plot that looked as if it was going to go somewhere interesting. I was so in to it until episode 6 or 7. It;s not like Glee at all. Glee didn't get boring and sappy after a few episodes. It's really hard to take reviews on here seriously. It seems like people don't want to hold Korean dramas to a high standard and that insults Korean dramas NOT constructive criticism. People always say the acting is amazing...ofcourse it is, it's Korean style. What about all the other things that go in to a show like the PLOT for example? Anyone want to see yet another woman get rescued by her domineering love interest? Okay maybe I do, but it's done so many times and I watch A LOT of dramas. I really actually want to see something unique and sometimes I do, but this isn't it singing or none. When I read the reviews on here I feel like most are from small children or fan boys and fan girls not people who are passionate about this art form.

i liked this overall esp professor sunwoo's lectures. park tae yi is very funny and cute. my fave couple out of all the characters in this is tae yi and jae hun. although i wish the ending was better. I feel that the drama is not complete. its still missing some gaps to the plot. Overall just wonderful! enough lovey doveys :)

Overall I really liked this. Wish there were more episodes though. Talula got it right in their review. There were a lot of things that didn't get resolved or explained. Loved the lead characters though! The songs are catchy too!

Dramas never make me cry but I sobbed my heart out to this one, put school work aside to watch. Definitely different from the others, much darker and realistic but I still smile nevertheless

This drama has just reached a pretty substantial place on my favorites list. Great actors, great story, great music. I have only one complaint, and that has to do with Professor Sunwoo Young. But I'm sure everyone who gets to the last episode shares my feeling!

This drama is very good... it really doesn't end up being about what you might assume it's about.. if that makes sense :) Very glad I watched!!!

This drama was uplifting; the story and characters were well portrayed and entirely believable. I'm a fan of Oh Man-suk and Im Joo-hwan but I must say I now have some new favorites. A timeless story of finding your "voice" in life. Oh Man-suk, brilliant performance.
