The follow-up to the 2011 smash hit Dream High, Dream High 2 boasts an (almost) all-new cast, but the same music-and-dream centered story that made the first so addicting. Six very different students at Kirin Arts School played by a roster of high-profile pop stars and rising acting talent.
In Dream High 2, the beloved arts school has fallen on hard financial times and a famous entertainment company is attempting to buy it out. When three talented girls who have formed a group called HershE transfer to Kirin, they wind up teaming up with - or sometimes competing against - a boy group at the school. Rian (Ji Yeon) dreams of becoming a famous actress, while Nana (Hyo Rin) has an extraordinary voice but is haunted by her past. Ailee is a talented but airheaded performer. Meanwhile, Shin Hye Sung (Kang Sora), who has her own set of musical skills, clashes with bad-boy Jin Yoo Jin (Jung Jin Woon), who dreams of becoming a rock star. Shenanigans, musical battles, competitions, and unexpected teamwork return in Dream High 2, bringing the same magic as the first. Prepare to watch the romantic and musical sparks fly!
But it's really frustrating to watch because almost every character is so unlikeable. I'm okay with the supporting actors being unlikeable but even the main characters who spend the most time on screen are really hard to watch. There's really no respectable person who can let me dismiss their unlikeability. Sometimes characters do dumb things and we can just brush it off and say, aw it's cool, I still like you. But the four main characters are always so frustrating. The new girl who's the daughter of the company and Ailee are my only hope but they rarely get any screen time. Everyone else is a lost cause.
This drama is really, really lacking. There's not enough substance to the plot, only potential and it's not being executed well. Why should I care about these characters? Why should I root for them? There's no stakes. I feel like there's way too many characters that they're trying to give enough screen time for all of them, but there's still no story.
Now its getting interesting. My favorite character so far is jin yoo jin; I especially thought that scene where he was imagining the principle dead was hilarious. Lets see if it stays as good as it is now. So I guess there using lines from Dream High 1 in Dream High 2 since in both someone said to the main lead actress: "Most girls look pretty when they cry...but you don't...so stop crying,ok." Loved the class B song. But the part where Yoo jin falls in front of JB pissed me off. I wish something bad would happen to JB for once he's been kind of making me mad this whole time because nothing really embarrassing really happens to him ever. Overall still good. Yeah in your face JB ep 12. JB finally became a likeable character for me by the end of the show. Also I like that unlike a lot of shows the sequel wasn't just the first story over again with a few things different it was actually a completely different story. Hope they make another just as good.
Not really a big fan of Kang Sora, but the show is great so far! And just wanted to point out that some people forget that Rian has problems too! She has a reason why she is acting the way she is! I am loving every single scene she is in!
It makes sense if u loved DH1 to have high expectations 4 S2. We knew they'd have a new story & cast, but we all looked forward 2 good things: an interesting story, excellent music, a plot & characters worth caring about, etc. Unfortunately, DH2's a letdown. Character development & plot r all off, & the story was only interesting some of the time. I found it difficult to care 4 any of the characters all the way thru the show, & in the end I finished it for the sake of giving an honest review, not b/c I really cared or wanted 2 know what happened. I feel sorry 4 the actors cuz they did very well despite what they had 2 work with; it's not their fault the writing & directing sucked. Also, some of the music was good, some.. not so much. In short, if u've never seen DH1 &/or keep ur expectations super-low, u coud enjoy it, but I can't bring myself 2 recommend it. If you HAVE seen DH1 &/or wanna see a genuinely good "Music Genre" show, see Shut Up Flower Boy Band instead.
