History of a Salaryman starring Lee Bum Soo and Jung Ryeo Won

Viewer Discretion is Advised.

From the writer/director duo that brought you the SBS hit, "Giant", Jang Young Chul and Yoo In Sik respectively, have paired up again for their next success, "History of the Salaryman." Part melodrama, part comedy, this series takes its cues from the epic legend "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms," with its characters taking on names from the story. (For any interested, DramaFever has the 5-part series available!) With its star-studded cast of Jung Ryeo Won (Ja Myung Go, My Lovely Sam-Soon), Lee Bum Soo (Giant, On Air), Jung Gyu Won (Romance Town, Sign) and Hong Soo Hyun (The Princess' Man, Lie To Me) we're taken along the ride for what promises to be a new twist on a classic "whodunit" mystery in this noir-inspired drama.

One night Yoo Bang (played by Lee Bum Soo) enters a dark, mysterious villa with nothing but a flashlight, only to find an executive of the Chunha Medical Group, Ho Hae slouched in a chair, dead and Jin Ho Hae's niece, Yeo Chi (Jung Ryu Won) hiding behind a curtain. At Ho Hae's funeral, Yoo Bang and Yeo Chi are suddenly taken into custody for his murder. We're taken three months into the past to reveal what led to this murder and exactly who was responsible. During this flashback we meet Choi Hang Woo (Jung Gyu Won), a director from Ho Hae's rival pharmaceutical company, who is undercover to steal the formula for their new drug and the Chief Researcher from Chunha Group, Cha Woo-Hee (played by Hong Soo Hyun). The lives of these individuals will all be intertwined within these three months to reveal exactly just who murdered Ho Hae, and why.

I can say with confidence that History of a Salaryman is easily in the running for one of the best dramas of 2012. The direction, writing and acting was solid all across the board. This was a very good, well-paced and a high quality drama to watch. History of a Salaryman was also laugh out loud funny, in a dark humor, off-beat sort of way. My favorite funny scene was the body-wheelchair-elevator scene (if you watch this drama, you'll know what I'm talking about hahaha!) I was also pleasantly surprised at the character growth of Yoo Bang and Lee Bum Soo's wonderful portrayal of this character. Jung Ryeo Won did an outstanding and memorable performance as Yeo Chi. There's just so much fire and sass she puts into the character, you'll love her! I have nothing but praises for History of a Salaryman, and I'm sure you will too!

this is probably the best drama i've seen, it's got everything! Sometimes you're laughing really hard, or on the verge of tears, or on the edge of your seat because of the suspense. It's amazing! I totally recommend it. The actors were great, they played their parts so perfectly, you come to love each and everyone of them as well as hating the villains with great passion. I couldn't stop watching this & it never failed to disappoint with its' episodes. Along with that, it's even got a great soundtrack! This will definitely be a drama I'll be watching again constantly!

Definitely different. Superb actors and acting, engaging plot, some great comedy. I was seduced, tho, by the industrial spying at the beginning. Also by the factory-closing plot. And that's my disappointment with this series: they abandoned the "salaryman" part and "rewarded" him with the "presidency/CEO" position. Went for "crazy villainess" instead of economic justice for the supervisor that invented the coveted whachamajiget (he was jailed, we never know why!) and the "downsized" workers. And it started sooo well. *sigh* The two lead characters were awesome, though.

Different type of story from many other dramas I've see. Story doesn't lag and performances are very good. Especially liked the "Sting" type approach taken to "flush out" the bad guys. And, fans of Jung Gyu-woon he looks excellent in red.

Was not familiar with any of the stars but I loved and enjoyed watching this drama. Jung Ryeo Won was great...especially when her character is getting bleeped. I got hooked from the get go. Will watch it again. The song was sung by Leeteuk(Super Junior) & Key(Shinee) and I love it.

Great show. It was a fun time watching....but the music had me thinking there was going to be a fight around the corner...which never surfaced O.o. The music was so intense at times I expected a punch, a kick, or even a gun...but we only got intense stares, lol. It was fun but either they should have put some fighting in the mix or toned down on the intensity of the music. All in all a good drama.

This drama is great. Yoo Bang is just hilarious. Didn't care much for Yeo Chi at 1st, then fell madly in love with her character. What a great pair. Always watch anything with Jung Gyu Woon in it and Cha Woo Hee was fantastic. Loved her character also. Great story, lots of laughter and tears. You will enjoy this one, I'm sure. Also loved the little clips they did at the end of each episode. Really funny. Great Drama.
