Merchant Kim Man Deok (거상 김만덕)

Merchant Kim Man Deok starring Lee Mi Yeon and Han Jae Suk

Based on the true story of Kim Man Deok (Lee Mi Yeon), a female figure inextricably bound to the history of Jeju Island. Originally highborn, Man Deok is orphaned at an early age and is adopted by a “Granny,” also know as the matron of a brothel. Man Deok then masters various arts and talents and goes into service as a lowly courtesan. After being jailed for running off with a lover, Man Deok turns her efforts towards caring for ailing courtesans, a turning point that transforms her into one of the most prolific and ethical entrepreneurs of the Joseon Dynasty.
