The last drama that Hallyu superstar (and possibly one of the most famous Korean actors of all time) Jang Dong Gun made before deciding to focus on his movies instead, All About Eve is generally considered a classic among Korean dramas, and was one of the most popular dramas of 2000. In this sometimes dark twist on the Cinderella story, two beautiful stepsisters battle each other for their lives, loves, and careers.
Sun Mi (Chae Rim) has always had a happy life. Raised by her loving father after her mother dies, she spends her childhood alongside best friend and semi-boyfriend Woo Jin (Han Jae Suk). But all that changes when her father decides to adopt Young Mi Huh (Kim So Yun), a girl the same age as Sun Mi who is left orphaned after her alcoholic father is killed while working for Sun Mi's father's construction company. Sun Mi's new stepsister is every bit as beautiful as she is - but her heart is as cold as ice. Envious of all that Sun Mi has, she goes after everything that she loves, first stealing Woo Jin from her and then joining the television network she works for in hopes of taking her job from her. Soon, the two young news reporters are competing for the top position in the network, and when one of the network's top executives Hyong Chul (Jang Dong Gun) begins to fall in love with Sun Mi, Young Mi goes after him also, sparking a no-holds-barred battle between the stepsisters. Young Mi, however, is hiding a darker past than just an alcoholic father, and when a dangerous figure from her past re-appears, things begin to spin wildly out of control.
This gripping drama garnered lead actress Chae Rim much attention and has been spoken of as one of the best Korean dramas of all time. Visit our friends at Drama Wiki and Hancinema for additional information about this drama.
It started out great but Sun mi as naive as she is grew very stupid.I didn't like how she cared more about Woo jin than the director. I stopped watching because her sweet character ecame foolish.Too much of everything is bad.
This is of course a classic in the sense that it's been around a long time. It was also the vehicle that catapulted Jang to superstar status and have him leave tv for the bigscreen. I am unclear as to whether it was the role itself or JDG's personal magnetism, but it was certainly one of the most attractive portrayal of a male lead in kdrama --- so quietly charming and luminously elegant! It was also interesting to see the female foil as Chae, despite being rather spoilt and weak seeming than the more obviously glamorous adversary. I couldn't understand what the hero saw in her attraction wise, until you saw there were qualities of goodness and brightness in her that he responded to.
on episode 10 now and can't believe how evil Young Mi is, and why are these guys all so clueless! Why doesn't Sun Mi stand up for herself! you don't have to be a pushover to be nice... so far this story is only gonna get 3 stars. The acting is good, but i feel frustrated instead of entertained...hope it gets better.
*SPOILERS* Not necessarily one of my favorites but still very good. Chae Rim was so darn cute even tho she was kind of silly/naive at times. I know everyone's complaining that the evil stepsister never got what was coming to her but I actually liked the end. It showed that she was a good person underneath and she only got so twisted because she had an alcoholic dad and deadbeat mom. It also justified why Woo Jin loved her so much and it didn't make his death completely pointless.
Since I've seen so many I see now where the love formula for kdrama gets some of its influence. A great story. And I wasn't feeling the main male lead, but by the end I was in love with him. A great love story. With an upbeat message through all its sadness.
The ending was not what I expected. It was too lame for the evil sister and it seemed like she did not suffer (or was not punished) for all the mean, cruel & bad things she did to the people who loved her. But overall, it was worth watching. The actors were great!
First Kdrama that I watched w/o skipping.......so the first Kdrama I ever loved.......This is what really drew into Kdrama......I've seen some good ones after this, but this is like your first true love.......seen it again and didn't get bored....the best
This drama is awesome! It's based on the old movie from Hollywood's golden era about a malicious, manipulating, and vengeful young woman who is set on ruining the life of a young woman she desperately wants to become. I loved all the twist and turns as well as how deliciously evil Young Mi is in this drama! My only complaint is with the ending (which I won't ruin). I hoped for something different, anyone else?
