The Great Catsby is an adaptation of a hugely popular web comic-turned-graphic novel published in both Korean and English. A playful, sometimes satirical comedy about love, money, and following your heart, the story is loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby. It stars famous hip-hop artist MC Mong, who has also appeared on 1 Night 2 Days and is known for his comedic personality, as Catsby, and familiar face Park Ye Jin (My Princess, Queen Seon Duk) as the fickle Persu ("Daisy" of the novel).
Catsby (MC Mong) is a disaffected, twenty-something slacker. Persu (Park Ye Jin) is his long-term girlfriend who leaves him for better prospects and begins dating a wealthy older man. She later regrets the decision, especially when bubbly Sun (Kang Hae Min) enters Catsby's life. Catsby, meanwhile, is slightly distracted by his roommate, a philandering tutor who treats him to wine, women, and song. Catsby's formerly dull life is suddenly full of excitement...
The bromance is endearing. Hondu is especially funny and lightens up the more serious issues. The theme of forgiveness is tightly wrapped around the central questions: "What does it mean to love a friend? What does it mean to love a man or woman? Can you forgive a friend or lover after their prolonged deception?"
There may be a few light moments, but overall its pretty dark, and twisted. The themes of love are much more adult than most Kdramas. Definitely not a feel good romantic comedy. I think that's why this one got failry mixed reviews, it's not for everyone. But the acting and the characters are excellent!!
Simply not convincing.
The writers and directors should go into some other field of work.
Gah, I'm glad i got tired of it after a while and skipped to the ending.
It could have been even more hours out of my life that I can never get back.
this drama, i did not think much of it at first, since the lead actor isnt good looking, but after watching this , i have to say it definitely is worth watching. u should give it a try. u wont want to miss a part of it. great acting, great cast and good story line
PERSU LOOKED MORE LIKE THEIR MOTHER AND NOT AT ALL LIKE ANYTHING THEY WOULD FIGHT OVER. BULLDOG AND SUN WERE THE ONLY REAL PEOPLE. UNDO AND CATSBY SHOULD HAVE JUST MARRIED EACH OTHER AND MAYBE WE WOULD HAVE SEEN A TRUE ENDING TO THIS MESS.
I've never hated two characters in any K-drama more than I do Persu and Houndu. ---> Probably one of the worst endings in drama history. The last 5 episodes were stretched out so much farther than it needed it almost felt like it was going to snap. MC Mong effectively portrayed depression and despair and then unrealistically through it all back in the last episode. I didn't understand the motive of the affair at all and Sun, who was great, felt like more of weird wrench in the story. Unfortunately, I disconnected from the characters half way through the series.
Started off good, but after finishing the 10 episode I'm just plain and tired of these adults playing love games. Houndu is the worst of the 3 playing ridiculous love games and acting like he is in high school. It would be better if this would be a 10ep series....i don't think i can take another 15eps of this going back and forth between Houndu and Persu.
Started off strong and then hit the bottom about mid-way through. I watch a lot of dramas and this one gets my first low rating. Not worth the time I spent watching it.
A riveting story of the struggles of an extraordinary woman and her journey to become a famed and beloved queen. Based on a true story and one of the most popular historical dramas of all time!
