The Snow Queen starring Hyun Bin, Sung Yuri, and Lee Sun Ho
Hyun Bin's follow-up to Kim Sam Soon, this drama brought together two of Korea's biggest stars (Hyun Bin and Sung Yuri) in an epic romance loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale of the same name. Directed by Lee Hyun Min (Winter Sonata and I'm Sorry, I Love You), The Snow Queen is a beautifully shot drama, which won four KBS popularity awards.
Hoping to help his poverty stricken family, math genius, Tae Woong attends a prestigious high school, where he befriends fellow scholar, Jung Kyu (Lee Sun Ho). After losing an important math competition, Jung Kyu commits suicide and Tae Woong is plagued by guilt.
Eight years later, Tae Woong struggles to survive as a third-rate boxer under the fake name, Deuk Ga. He is hired as a chauffeur to a troubled rich girl and begins to fall for her. Slowly her identity is revealed to be his long lost childhood love, as well as Jung Kyu's sister. Tae Woong struggles to face his demons in order to help the woman he loves and put his life back together.
The fated relationship between Tae Woong and Bo Ra draws you to a place where destiny and fate collide. Soul mates separated by tragedy come together again in spite of everything. The journey these two take is analogous to that which makes us persevere when faced with adversity, and how that brings us together. Not even death can come between the love these two have for each other. The math aspect of this dramatiztion served as a couterbalance for the feelings between the two leads. Love cannot be measured nor quantified. I really enjoyed watching this drama. A must see.
This drama is so heart-wrenching. It is an adaption of a manhwa by the same name by a manhwaga named Wann. I first read the manhwa a year or two ago and had been stalling to watch the drama since. The manhwa was a tragedy and quite sad but the portrayal in this drama made me burst into tears. In the first few episodes, I was already crying. So much was going on even in the first episode. It was pulling my heart constantly. The most tearful episode for me was episode 12. I was literally crying a river of tears almost.
A story about when guilt causes one to lose his will to continue on a path of glory, fate steers him back to his original course, granting him eventually forgiveness, some happiness, and a new will to continue his life be it good or bad.
If you are skeptical about this drama, you should read the manhwa even if you aren't a manhwa reader. It'll introduce the storyline to you however, the storyline in the manhwa is different from the drama.
Watched this series because of Hyun Bin (of course), but was not particularly moved (no heart fluttering or tears on my end). In addition, the background story is pretty shaky. Would skip unless you REALLY want to see Hyun Bin's dimples...
is this show gonna be like the show , ummm lets see what was that show called lol, where at the end the man shoots himself the womans lover and the woman he shoots lol idk
This one didn't really grab me, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't well done. It was good to see Hyun Bin doing something other than the spoiled chaebol - he took this role & ran away with it. I think if I had perhaps seen this one earlier on in my kdrama list, it might have gotten to me more... I could see the way it would play out fairly early on because it follows "the formula" almost to the T. Very well executed & good for when you need something to hold you over until the new stuff is released, but for some reason I never felt any chemisty with the characters & therefore wasn't all that upset when it everything inevitably went south.
I don't know why but the fact that the director decided to end this drama as a send ending was extremely disappointing to me. I mean there has to be a limit to how much tragedy a person can suffer and come through it but it turns out the main character was dealt with nothing but tragedy from the beginning lol. It was like god wanted to say since I gave you a gift, now I have to curse you as well loll. It was a great drama but would have preferred a happier ending in this drama and the tumor was blown over the top at the end as such cases are rare at best (but seeing as god was cursing the poor guy the chances of his girlfriend getting it were extremely high haha). Anyways I think I am about done with my rant now loll, wouldn't recommend the drama to a friend though since I lean more towards the answer rather than the process unlike Tae Woong. But still a great Drama.
Destiny, Fate. Paths cross and cross again to bring a wonderful love story together. I was moved by the intensity of this film. Hyun Bin at his best! Sung Yu Ri pulls off one of the best emotional acting I have seen for a female. I was ingulfed so deep into this Drama that I had to purchase Hans Christian Andersen's Book to find out what happens to Kay in Lapland.
I would have given this five stars for the acting alone, but the ending was too predictable. I'm going to have to stop watching melodramas because my heart aches when I'm done and I can't sleep without crying for days. Just once, can we please have the writers give us a happy ending to a melodrama? I mean, wouldn't it make sense that God, in His infinite wisdom, would grant these two people joy after all that they went through? I don't mind a good tear jerker, but I'd like to be able to have some tears of happiness once in awhile. I'm so glad that they did NOT have Tae Woong commit suicide in the end. That would have made me very sad. All in all, a great kdrama, but just so, so sad...
Well done and amazing story. It doesn't have to be happy ending story all the time, with superb acting to deliver their lines said it all. It was well worth watching it. Bravo and thank you to all the casts.
