What Happened in Bali starring Ha Ji Won, Jo In Sung, and So Ji Sub

Three powerhouse stars come together for this psychologically gripping, complex drama. Drawing stunning 25% ratings by its fourth episode, What Happened in Bali maintained consistently high ratings over the course of its run. From the director of Will It Snow at Christmas?, the classic melodrama stars Ha Ji Won (Secret Garden, Damo), Jo In Sung (Piano), and So Ji Sub (Sorry I Love You, Road No. 1). Jo In Sung won both a Best Actor and a Baeksang Award for this drama, which is known for its twist ending. Love and lust in the tropics sets off a chain of events that will change four people's lives.

Lee Soo Jung (played by Ha Ji Won) is scraping by as a tour guide in Bali, supporting herself and her deadbeat older brother. When she's hired as tour guide to an unusual threesome, her life changes forever. Kang In Wook (So Ji Sub) is poor but ambitious, climbing the ranks of the corporate world, his college girlfriend Choi Young Joo (Park Ye Jin) has broken up with him in order to marry a rich man instead. Immediately having doubts about her decision, she decides to have one last hurrah with her ex-boyfriend before getting married, in the form of a trip to Bali. To their surprise, Young Joo's fiance, disaffected heir, Jung Jae Min (Jo In Sung), also shows up to torment the two out of boredom. The four learn more about each other than they bargained for on the course of the tour. When they all return to Seoul for various reasons, they find themselves again thrown together, and confusion surrounding love and money soon fills their lives.

Ha Ji-Won and Jo In-Sung were mesmerizing as Soo-Jung and Jae-Min. In her stubbornness, she would accept help only on her own terms and be more than willing to suffer poverty, humiliation, and hurt out of pride. In the beginning, she would let Jae-min support her, and take her to shopping when their relationship was one of mutual benefit: hers of material need and his of filling an emotional void. This exchange didn't last as they began to develop deeper love interest with one another. She rejected his money for a helpless underclass and empathy for being abused by his family. And he couldn't give up his privileges to free himself of its evil strappings to share an uncertain life with her. Out of their dispositions, they cause much pain on one another as they never could find a way to unite against the forces against them. In the end, he would lose the only thing that he craves for all his life and she would give the only thing in the world that belongs to hers: SARANG.

the drama is a bit frustrating. I wanted to scream to In Wook to be more open about his feelings..but I guess that would be too much to ask. The drama has a depressing ending. The heroine is too wishy washy. One thing I gained from the drama, just realized how handsome So Ji Sub is!

I only watched this drama because of Ha Jin Won. I love her!! But this drama seemed to be stereo type. You could see what was going to happen in most areas. Still I watched it all the way through. I have to say that in the end it made me cry. lol. It was a good after all.

It was really good, but I did not expect that end to have a twist like that. WOW! That goes to show you have strong love really is. My mom was in a relationship like that but she now has a restring order against that person. That person is totally obsessed with her...

Loved this drama I felt for soo jung.I don't understand why everyone is calling her a gold-digger/slut she was poor and went thru so much abuse, and she is an orphan as well! She is very pitiful unlike the main girl in bad guy who was just being greedy and didn't get much sympathy from me,her brother was making her life a living hell and who wouldn't dream to have money in her situation?anyway I think that she did feel something for inwook at first because they had a lot in common, but her heart was always with jaemin, and speaking of jaemin I think his dad is hands-down the worst dad in kdrama history! Seriously who the hell beats their own son with a golf club for refusing to marry a woman they don't love?WTF and his brother was huge asshole as well, his entire family was a dysfunctional mess and I was surprised he didn't go insane sooner.

1) It eventually became tiring, I now have twists fatigue. 2) We are our own enemies, the things we think of ourselves, may they be right or wrong, tend to sometimes make us take the wrong decisions. 3) Another thing I learned in life, which proved to be true here, is that you cannot keep people apart. The more you do, the stronger their bond will grow. Each of the main players should have gotten out of this mess a long time ago, too many complications. I initially watched the series because of So Ji-Sub, but also liked Jo In-Sung's performance. Overall, I wasn't not wowed.
