Winter Bird starring Park Sun Young, Yoon Sang Hyun, and Hwang Jung Eum

This gripping romance remakes a wildly popular 1992 drama based on a novel. The cast of solid actors includes Park Sun Young (Sons of Sol Pharmacy), Lee Tae Gon (Golden Fish), and rising stars Yoon Sang Hyun (Secret Garden) and Hwang Jung Eum (Giant, High Kick Through the Roof).

Young Eun (Park Sun Young) is taken in by the Jung family after being orphaned as a child. She and Do Hyun, her adopted brother, are drawn powerfully together. Do Hyun's parents do not approve however, and the two separate so as not to hurt their family. Moving on with her life, Young Eun marries doctor Joo Kyung Woo. Kyung Woo turns out to be neurotic and entirely under the control of his domineering mother, and Young Eun grows more and more unhappy. Beautiful pediatrician Jin Ah (Hwang Jung Eum) falls for Do Hyun and pursues him, and he eventually marries her. After the wedding, Young Eun has finally had enough of her husband and his mother and leaves Kyung Woo. Now, Young Eun and Do Hyun are torn between their previous commitments and a fate that seems determined to bring them together.

I was weeping very much for the first time with happy ending story. It was long journey to watch all 43 episodes.Since I was living same situation as Dr.Joo's family, it moved my heart very much.I know it is impossible to live together with mama boy husband and this kind of mother in law.Yoon sang hyun and Park won sook both play excellent. They can get the Academy award. They express very well about typical korean family. I was always impressed that korean parent involve way too much with own children's marriage life. I wish I can see more often this kind of true love between Do hyun and Young eun.If I were him, I would not stay like him. I learn from Do hyun about being patient until having permission from parent. It was amazing to me having great respect for his parent. He is deserved to have relationship with Young eun who has the true heart only for Do Hyun.It is beautiful but too painful. Because this drama was very intense,I would like enjoy happy ending more. But they did good job.

By the 3rd episode I gave up and just skipped to the last episode... and whoa, big surprise, in 43 episodes there wasn't an ounce of character growth with the two most annoying characters in the show. Seriously, WTF! This would have been far more poignant if the idiot love interest was left high and dry at the end as punishment for her stupidity.

The last part of this episode has missing or too-quick subtitles. I agree that the lead character is too submissive in this role--she has no expression most of the time. I'm waiting to see what revelation the mother-in-law has to explain why she wants the girl and her adopted brother to stay away from each other. I subtracted a star for bad lighting in some of the episodes. Added 6/24/11: I finally got to the end of this series months later. It wasn't worth waiting for--the ending is very unsatisfactory. Taking off another star for wasting my time.

I just love the evil mother in law! She is the Korean version of Dr. Jeckal & Mr. Hyde and so money hungry. She just cracks me up! I can understand the meek daughter in law. she feels trapped in the marriage but doesn't want to bother her adopted family with her issues. The whole drama is entertaining and I'm glad I give it a try, even after reading all the negative comments. also, loved the ending too!

I watched 2/3 of the first episode and bits and pieces of the last one but I'm pretty sure I can tell you everything that happens in detail

I enjoyed this series but it was frustrating at times. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it overall. The main character who was adopted into the family felt a strong sense of obligation not to do anything to make her adoptive parents unhappy. In some ways things went way beyond the call of duty but I guess this is because it is a different culture. This is part of why some of the dramas are so good. This may not really be a review but I do not like being a spoiler in any way. This drama made me laugh, smile, cry and angry.
