Winter Sonata starring Bae Yong Joon, Park Yong Ha, and Choi Ji Woo

Winter Sonata is a deeply moving story that became one of the most popular Korean television series of all time. Bae Yong Joon stars as Joon Sang, the brilliant but introverted son of a famous musician who moves to rural Korea to start a new life with his troubled mother. Painfully withdrawn, Joon Sang gradually makes friends with Sang Hyuk (played by Park Yong Ha) and Yu Jin (Choi Ji Woo). Just as Yu Jin has broken through to Joon Sang's heart, an abrupt twist of fate cuts him off from everything he loves, seemingly forever.

A modern classic, Winter Sonata became the first Korean drama to become a major hit in Japan, where it aired twice in one year due to popular demand. Winter Sonata spawned a national frenzy in Japan, with fans of Bae Yong Joon ("Yonsama") organizing trips to the island of Namiseom where the drama is set. Even a 26-episode anime adaptation, featuring many of the original actors speaking in Korean and subtitled in Japanese. Synonymous with the Hallyu Wave, DramaFever is proud to present this important piece of k-drama history.

Both Kang Joon-sang and Kim Sang-hyuk had true friendship, faithfulness, and love for Jun Yu-jin. They also showed compassion, empathy, perseverance, sacrfice, and forgiveness. Awesome, men!

The story line itself is good, but the actors are in slow motion!!! And the main character, Yu Jin, never seemed happy. She was cute and bubbly in the high school scenes, but the rest of the episodes were torturous. Did the actor playing Joon Sang have lots of botox? His face was strange, not much emotion. I don't think he could move the muscles in his face. The thing that bugged me the most was when Yu Jin went to Paris instead of New York. Why!!??? And why don't they ever kiss? They barely touch. Maybe because it's an old show.

What can I say, this is just so so. I mean it moves so slow, and there was so many crying scenes in it but it didn't move me as much as Spring Waltz and Summer Scent, it was just ok.

I loved Choi Ji Woo & Bae Yong Jun in this drama. Their romance really tugs at your heartstrings. I cried at so many memorable scenes. The music is also perfect. If you love Winter Sonata check out the story in animation. Both main actors returned to provide their voices to their characters. Classic…Classic….Classic.

What can I say about this drama?! It's beautiful, utterly romantic, wonderfully filmed, with amazing actors, and a soundtrack to weep over. On the other hand, it's painfully slow-paced, frustrating, epically long (20 episodes is long for a plot like this one), But on the third hand, there are some twists that even I didn't see coming. Was the wait worth it? I think so.. A WORD OF ADVICE for viewers like me who can't handle the even slower paced second half: fast forward every 30-45 seconds for quicker drama flow. You won't miss anything, and it still feels like you watched every moment.

The chemistry, acting, scenery and staging are excellent. The music indicating loss becomes repetitive after a few episodes, but they spice it up with a new song every few episodes. I loved the first three episodes. The next five were almost as good. But Episode 13-19? 7 hours of nothing happening except going in circles? There is one revelation in that entire period. Please do yourself a favor and go to episode 20 from the change in relationships in 12. You won't miss a thing. If only they could've broken the mold and done this show with 11 episodes like Japanese Drama. Even then, that might be giving these characters too much time on the screen.

The acting is great. The scenes are beautiful. The music is beautiful. So beautiful and relaxing that they put me to sleep. The director loves scnes of beautiful scenery and characters just walking with pretty music too much. I think I would have loved this drama if it was cut to 16 episodes. There is a lot of stupid stuff that could be removed. The mother is ridiculous and some of the things that happen to Bae Yong-Joon make me think "Come on really?" the only reason I finished this drama was because it is on netflix and I could fold laundry while watching it... If you are a fan of the other season dramas or melodramas you will probably like this one. I would give it 2 stars but I really did love the acting, the music, and the beautiful scenes!
