New Heart Starring Ji Sung, Kim Min Jung, and Jo Jae Hyun
Ji Sung (Save the Last Dance for Me, Swallow the Sun), Kim Min Jung (Fashion 70's), and Lee Ji Hoon (Hello! Miss) head this hit medical drama. Cardiac surgery is one of the most demanding and difficult forms of surgery, and is not as lucrative as other medical careers, so when Lee Eun Seung (Ji Sung) and Nam Hye Suk (Kim Min Jung) are the only applicants to apply for residency they are accepted easily. Dr. Choi Kang Gook (Jo Jae Hyun), the new head of Cardiovascular Surgery has his doubts.
Eun Seung, has always dreamed of becoming a great cardiac specialist, as an orphan coming from a small-town med school, his skills are basic. Hye Suk, on the other hand, has graduated from an elite medical school with top marks, but possesses an inflexible personality. Gradually, as they work together, a mutual respect dawns, and Eun Seung begins to be attracted to Hye Suk. Things are shaken up however as a famous actor, Lee Dong Gwon (Lee Ji Hoon), is admitted to the hospital, who has a romantic past with Hye Suk and aims to win her heart once more.

Character and plot development were very interesting. Definitely one of the better medical dramas I've seen. I would have liked the final episode to have been perhaps 10 minutes longer just to see a bit more of the relationship developments but it was very good. As others have commented, they do make reference to practicing surgical procedures on animals throughout the drama, but nothing unpleasant is actually shown and mention is made that the animals receive post-op care - I think this is just an accepted part of learning surgery in South Korea, and shouldn't put anyone off watching the drama.
This drama was very good. I loved how nearly every episode introduced new characters. It helped the story keep going at a good pace. Loved the performances especially from Jo Jae Hyun. The only thing I wasn't crazy about were the animal experiments mentioned in the final episode. Overall this drama is a 3 1/2 stars...full of heart and definitely worth watching.
Okay movie, I found this hospital drama somewhat interesting although I felt the story line was lacking at times. Where do they find the Caucasians for these Korean dramas? I find them to be unrealistic representation of Americans and English. They look more European of Dutch decent they speak English with accents of another origin. They are so bland and unattractive; I guess they have to be so that they wouldn’t upstage the actors.
Why don't they wear gloves when examining a patient? Have seen several K-dramas where no gloves were worn by drs. and nurses in hospitals. I hope in real life Korea that gloves are worn. YUCK!
Besides that, enjoying the drama.
It was so interesting , I did wish that they had focused more on the surgeries and less on hospital politics or doctors degenerated private life. but man Ji Sung is a great actor !!
