Road No.1 starring So Ji Sub, Kim Haneul, and Yoon Kye Sang
A high-budget war epic commemorating the Korean War, Road No.1 spans several generations and sixty years, and commemorates the sixty years that have passed since the Korean War. It's based around the historical "Route 1", a national highway that served as the main passageway between North and South Korea during the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950. Leading Kdrama stars So Ji-Sub (Sorry I Love You, Cain and Abel) and Kim Haneul (On Air, 90 Days Time To Love) portray star-crossed lovers who are torn apart by war. Yoon Kye-Sang of Who Are You? co-stars as a young army officer while Choi Min-Soo is a hard-bitten commander.
Lee Jang Woo (So Ji Sub), the son of a poor peasant, has been in love with his master's daughter, Soo Yeon (Kim Haneul) since childhood. He joins the military in order to put her through medical school and becomes a brilliant officer, leading his men to victory through guerilla warfare. Mistakenly believing that Jang Woo was killed in battle, Soo Yeon becomes engaged to military officer Tae Ho (Yoon Kye-Sang). Jang Woo returns on the eve of their wedding, and the two are briefly, painfully united, but the eruption of War tears them apart once again, forcing him to fight alongside Tae Ho on top of everything. Jang Woo keeps fighting to get back to his love, but the war continues to find new ways to keep them apart.

A definite Must See!!! War movies are hard to watch, let alone a war drama but this is so worth it.
Great directorial work by Kim Jin Min, not to mention the tremendous job by the main actors So Ji Sub, Kim Haneul, Yoon Kye Sang, Choi Min Soo & Son Chang Min,
I am now officially in love with So Ji Sub & Yoon Kye Sang (whose left butt cheek you'll have a chance to see ;-)) . I have watched about 20 Korean dramas up to date, and this is the only one which left me with a feeling of complete satifaction.
ENJOY!!!
The battles were epic, but character development among much of the cast was missing. More background info on some of the other soldiers would have been nice as well. I didn't connect with many of the characters and I didn't feel anything when some of them perished. Probably needed more episodes, maybe 24 instead of 20.
the two main actors, so ji sub and the guy from greatest love/who are you were worth the watch. the war action is violent, yet i imagine it's real. hard to watch, but the acting is excellent. 71: into the fire - also an excellent watch... front line also is excellent. now that i've said that -- i'd say the aforementioned movies were MORE worth the watch. road no. 1 is good if you're a SJS fan, which i am guilty of... but loved him better in i'm sorry, i love you, among others... but then, i absolutely hated what happened in bali. looking forward to his new drama recently mentioned in dramabeans...
Many heart-wrenching scenes, but there seemed to be a recurring motif of hope (however faint) throughout the drama. Loved the actors and the soundtrack as well.
I tried to watch this show several times, but could not watch more than a few minutes of the first episode... and then I would ditch it. But I kept coming across positive reviews of the drama... so finally, I made it past the first episode and then got hooked. Can't really say much about this drama cos my emotions are too engaged. All I can say is that everyone should watch it :) P.S. I even liked the ending :)
Road Number One and Comrades hit every nerve in my body; I cried numerous time throughout the movies. The music and the story stick in my mind for days and I've found it difficult to find another drama to watch. I am not a movie collector and I prefer romatic movies over the war stories but I am seriously thinking about buying the DVD's for this and Comrades.
i'm sort of heartbroken in the end, but the show is awesome. painfully real and lifelike. the romantic in me wanted a happily ever after but being a Korean drama,it did its job of curing me of Hollywood fairy tales and as always taught me valuable life lessons
