My Lovely Sam Soon starring Kim Sun Ah, Hyun Bin, and Jung Ryeo Won

Brisk, endearing, and completely addicting, My Lovely Sam-Soon, also known as My Name is Kim Sam-Soon, was the runaway mega-hit of 2005, and launched Kim Sun Ah to super-stardom for her role as klutzy, passionate, endearingly stubborn almost-30 Kim Sam-Soon. Korea's version of Bridget Jones' Diary, this refreshing drama about the struggles of a modern day woman clearly struck a chord with Korean audiences, and brought male lead Hyun Bin also to immense fame and popularity, while pulling in ratings over 30% from the fourth episode on, peaking in a mind-boggling 50.5% for the finale.

At 29, Kim Sam-Soon's career and love life has hit a dead end. She is overweight, unmarried, saddled with an embarrassingly old-fashioned name, and has just lost her job. On Christmas Eve, she catches her boyfriend of three years cheating on her, and promptly breaks up with him. Something has got to give. Enter Hyun Jin-Heon (Hyun Bin), the arrogant 27-year old owner of a restaurant called Bon Appetit, who hires her to put her French-pastry-chef skills to work as the restaurant's chief baker. Stubborn and opinionated, the two individuals rapidly go head to head, fighting over cooking styles and almost everything else under the sun, but in the midst of all the arguments and ingredients flying around, something warmer starts simmering. When Jin-Heon gets pressured by his family to get married and Sam-Soon needs 50 million won to redeem her mother's house from debt, Jin-Heon decides to hire her to act as his girlfriend, and the two sign a dating contract. Things get complicated however when Jin-Heon's ex-girlfriend returns from the U.S. with her sights set on getting him back, and when Sam-Soon's ex-boyfriend and a new admirer appear in her life.

The drama co-stars Jung Ryu Won (What Planet Are You From?) and Korean-American Daniel Henney (X-Men: Origins) as Jin-Heon's ex-girlfriend and Sam-Soon's new admirer, respectively, in this quirky mix of romance, modern-day realism, and hilarious comedy that is not to be missed.

Also known as My Name is Kim Sam-Soon or My Lovely Sam-Soon. Visit our friends at Drama Wiki and Hancinema for additional information about this drama.

NOT SO GOOD!!! The story line is good but the MAIN GIRL (SAMSOON) IS JUST TOO FAT AND NOT SO good looking TO WATCH. I watched this show and I don't see what everyone leaving reviews ARE talking about. THIS IS AN AVERAGE DRAMA!!!! If you are looking for a good romantic drama then this is not the one as the main character is just not so good looking not just in terms of looks but also her behavior. This actually is a big distraction for me. She also looks too old and have an annoying Ajumah voice. I am getting tired of these directors that pick these not so good looking girls with nasty habits and attitudes for main character roles in love dramas. These nasty habits and attitudes are not good for a woman to have and are by no means attractive. Check out "Full House" or"My girl" These are two of the best Korean romance dramas around.

AMAZING!!! i love this movie, it's my second time watching it.. it surprises me even after watching it the first time. It's hilarious and i just love how there is just the right amount of drama, it's not to the point where you want to just rip someone's hair out, but enough to be reasonable. I recommend this movie to anyone and everyone who is into comedy!!! I love Sam Sun Ah, she's the best korean actress I've seen!! All the movies that I've seen of her are hilarious, I love her character!

Am I the Only One Who Didn't Get the Chemistry? I enjoyed this show a lot. It's very funny, cute and thoughtful and I can't recall ever being bored while watching it. But I just couldn't see the romantic chemistry between the leads. And no, it had nothing to do with the fact that Sam Soon is "fat" (which she totally isn't!). It's more due to the fact that the guy totally ignores her to go chasing after his ex and then one day decides out of nowhere that he actually loves Samsoon. I mean, if I didn't know it was a romantic comedy I wouldn't have even expected him to fall in love with her. Don't get me wrong! I did think they had chemistry, but it was more like "friend" chemistry. Cute show, though. I recommend it if you need a good laugh.

OK Drama But Could Be MUCH Better I turned to this drama after watching Kim Suna in "The Cityhall," which is somewhat similar to "My Lovely Sam Soon" in terms of theme (a 30-something who finds love with the most unexpected person). But this drama can't even hold a light to "Cityhall." The lead actors Hyun and Kim were OK independently I suppose ... but there really was no chemistry at all visible between them. No smoldering looks, steamy kisses, pregnant pauses, etc. They seemed more like best friends (or a couple very used to each other) than a pair who had just fallen in love. But I'm glad I watched. And because I am such a fan of Kim in "Cityhall" I'm going to give "When It's Night" a shot.
