My Lovely Sam Soon starring Kim Sun Ah, Hyun Bin, and Jung Ryeo Won
Brisk, endearing, and completely addicting, My Lovely Sam-Soon was the runaway mega-hit of 2005, and launched Kim Sun Ah to super-stardom. Korea's version of Bridget Jones' Diary, this refreshing drama still finds new audiences today.
At 29, Kim Sam-Soon's career and love life have hit a dead end. She is overweight, unmarried, stuck with an embarrassingly old-fashioned name, and has just lost her job and caught her boyfriend of three years cheating on her. Enter Hyun Jin-Heon (Hyun Bin), the arrogant 27-year old owner of a restaurant called Bon Appetit, who hires her to put her pastry-chef skills to work as the restaurant's chief baker. With Jin-Heon's family breathing down his neck to get married, and Sam-Soon desperately in needs of money to save her family home, despite their volatile relationship, the two strike up a deal. Sam Soon masquerades as Jin Heon's girlfriend and they begin to grow close, but things get complicated when Jin-Heon's lost love mysteriously returns with her sights set on getting him back. Will Jin-Heon be able to forget about her and learn to love Sam Soon for who she really is?

A slightly unusual twist on a familiar tale = and just about perfect. The leads are completely adorable. The story is engaging, realistic, and keeps leaving you waiting for more. Not a boring bit anywhere in this show, as you never know where it's going next! Kim Sun Ah, I bow down to you. You are glorious.
An excellent cast ensured the success of this K-drama. It was a very realistic portrayal of life. It was not a "fairy-tale romance" in that there were many obstacles to overcome and even then nothing was finalized, in other words, there was no guarantee that "everyone lived happily ever after.
Let me just say that I almost didn't watch this. It was compared to "Korea's version of Bridget Jones' Diary" and I must say that it is not. Yes, she is "overweight," but she has way more gumption than Renee Zellweger! Sam-soon is my favorite female character (as well as Kim Sun Ah for actress) and Hyun Bin matches her step-for-step. I've seen this twice already and I still laugh out loud. Enjoy!!
Second time I have watched this very funny romantic adventure. Loved the acting and Sam Soon's character. However, too much hitting on the male lead by the mother and Sam Soon. Loved the dialog and story line between the two.
This is the second time I have watched this drama, and I am sure it won't be the last! I loved it. I only have one negative comment and that is the hitting started to get redundant, In the grand scheme of things Kim Sam Soon was the perfect size for a woman, but in Korean culture, it seems the women need to be near anorexic to be considered attractive! I guess to each his own, but it didn't detract from the story for me, after all, it is just a story. I would actually watch anything Hyun Bin and Kim Sun Ah are in, they are both amazing actors. I really liked the chemistry between Daniel Henny and the Hee Jin character, they seemed so natural together as if they were not acting at all. All in all, this is great fun, watching Sam Soon dance had me rolling, I think if you can just accept this for what it is, great acting and an interesting story, then you will enjoy it.
I've been reading around on the interwebs about how good this drama is. I really liked it and the appearance of the main character caught me of guard a bit. I'v been so used to seeing very slim and skinny Korean actresses for theses type if roles. I guess I wasn't expecting that she be so big but her body size was normal. As the drama went on I realised she wasn't exactly fat or whatever. That aside Kim SunAh did a great job of acting such a part. I understand that this drama wasn't for everyone which is totally fine. But I still think she embodied (heh) her character's veiw on life quite well. Also whenever Daniel Henney spoke I was like *3*
All the songs used here were superb, like Paint It Black, and all those English songs, and some of the older Korean songs.
I'm not sure though what I feel about the ending though...
May be it's the culture, but do Korean truly go around hitting each other like this? I also got tired of the fat comments. Are people really that shallow to think that skinny means beautiful? It had potential, but it fell flat. I also am not a fan of the main actress--I haven't seen her in anything yet that I really like her in.
