Biography

Winner of the 2011 SBS Drama Award Grand Prize for his role in Deep Rooted Tree, Han Suk Kyu is a South Korean actor with more than two decades of experience. As a young man, he attended Dongguk Uniersity where he sang in a folk rock band. Shortly after Suk Kyu accepted a contract as a voice actor at KBS, he decided to step in front of the camera for the MBC drama Our Paradise (1990).

After this breakthrough role, Suk Kyu went on the play the loveable gigolo, Hong-shik, in The Moon of Seoul (1994). After taking a break from acting in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, he returned for the film Double Agent (2003). His is currently slated to appear in two films in 2003: In Berlin and My Pavarotti.

Suk Kyu founded the Mandong Script Festival, which has produced the comedy 2424/ (2002) and Private Eye starring Hwang Jung-min. He directly mentored young actor Gam Wu-seong, and many other young actors cite him as an influence. Somewhat camera shy when he’s not acting, Suk Kyu has a reputation as an intellectual and a loner. He enjoys golf, fishing and reading.
