Biography

Ethan Ruan is a Taiwanese actor and model whose career got started by chance. He accompanied a friend to an audition and he was selected. He became a model and appeared in several music videos before making his screen debut in a TV drama series, Michael the Archangel's Dance (2004). He followed with supporting roles in several other dramas. His performance in the drama series, Wayward Kenting (2007) received favorable recognition, but fame did not come immediately and he was so financially strapped that his water and electricity were cut many times.

In 2008, he was made the male lead for the first time and co-starred with Joe Chen in the drama series, Fated to Love You. The show broke ratings record and became an all-time highest rated drama in Taiwan. As a result, he was nicknamed ""King of Idol Drama."" In 2009, his drama series, My Queen, also won high ratings and viewers were very upset when they thought the ending was leaked out before its official showing. In 2010, he played a Taiwanese gangster in the movie, Monga, and his performance won him Best Leading Actor at the prestigious Golden Horse Awards.

After serving in an alternative military service due to his flat feet, he was discharged in January 2013 and resumed his busy filming career starting with The Assassin (2013).
