Biography

Tong Liya is a Chinese actress. Her nickname is Ya Ya. She was born in Xinjian, China, of the minority Xibe tribe, to a family of artists and performers. Tong was talented in dancing as a child and often participated in dance performances. She is a certified dance teacher. In 2000 she found a job in a song and dance ensemble. In 2002, she was first runner-up in the Miss Xinjiang pageant. She was accepted into the prestigious Central Academy of Drama in Beijing in 2004.

In 2006, she made her screen debut in a TV drama, C'est La Vie, Mon Cherie. Her role was minor but her performance was well received. She gained wide recognition and praise when she played a beautiful but tragic queen in a historical drama, The Queens (2008). She then followed up with roles in numerous TV dramas such as Palace (2011), Beijing Love Story (2012), and Beauties of the Emperor (2012).

Her hobbies are photography, piano, dancing and singing.
