This drama is muted but very strong and steady, and the writing is superb. I have the impression that the story unfolds exactly as the writer and director intend it to with absolutely no pandering to trends or popularity. Each character is finely formed, and those with faults forgiven. The golden apple is sweet.
What to say about this drama? I kept thinking that it could have been done better than it was. I also kept thinking about the lead actor, Rain, willing to throw himself without reserve into the clothes and character of a role like this, and not afraid to be over the top, ending up by filling the screen with something very moving. Shin Min Ha doesn't hurt, as well. If the series ended with Episode 15, I would have been quite happy, it was a perfect ending just as it was. The invitation in subtitle was ambiguous, I don't know if it was in the original Korean. But of course, huge Korean baggage that is thrown overboard can't just sink out of sight as it can in Hollywood. My complaint about the last episode is not what happened but about its quality. I had the distinct impression that the screenwriter was already on deadline for her new drama, or sick or on vacation, and left this episode to an unsupervised immature assistant. The cast and crew and PD and audience deserved more.
