I seriously loved the characters. They were fantastic to fall in love with and I enjoyed every minute of their journey. I already knew Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun had amazing chemistry from the movie The Thieves, but wow did they tug at my heartstrings. I adored their every onscreen moment. One criticism that I have to say, is that the other characters were somewhat underdeveloped. I was actually looking forward to Se Mi's plot, but I feel like they kind of skimped on her a bit. I'm not saying that I would've like the "ultra-bitch" character, but she really didn't do much in the drama. The villain was even a bit underdeveloped and though he was terrifying, wasn't very interesting. There were also a few loose ends and glossed over moments that I felt should have been addressed more. The drama's good points were in the two leads and the awesome chemistry. I also loved the ending. It wasn't a sugar-coated-everything-wrapped-in-a-bowtie ending. It was bittersweet and lovely. 4.5 stars.
Omg. I can't even begin to describe how amazing this drama is. It was goddamn perfect. The writing, the plot, the characters, the pivotal emotional moments, and the small endearing moments were absolutely perfect. The relationship between the friends was great to watch, while the romance flowed amazingly well between the past and present and was superbly written. The family dynamic was so realistic and poignant that it reminded me so much of my own family. I loved everything about this drama. The ambience and feel of first love and the frustration of being a teenager was spot on. I cannot recommend this drama enough. If you have any doubts about watching Answer Me 1997, put them away and click the damn Play button because believe me- it's worth it. 5 stars.
The cast did a great job and the plot was pretty good, however, no matter how much I logically liked the show, I just couldn't get emotionally invested. It might be because no matter how hard I tried to see it, I just couldn't picture the two lead characters as a couple. They didn't match to me, so my enjoyment was hindered by skepticism. Maybe I didn't love the drama because I really didn't fall in love with the main dude. I thought his character was interesting and I liked him well enough, but I didn't fall in love with him as I should have in a love drama. The show was cute and had a somewhat compelling plot, but fell flat at the emotions. 2.5 stars.
