I really like this series from Lee. Ajuma had been through so much and it breaks your heart. Life can be so cruel but the people in her story are worse. Her husband was the only person who showed her any kindness.

We humans can be capable of being so heartless and selfish. Her own children couldn't understand her pain and sacrifice. It breaks my heart to see how they treat her especially the oldest one but seeing how this household functions, he might have been through some hard times in his life too. There seems to be a lot of domestic violence, mental, sexual abuse in this household. Bill, a pile of manure of a human, doesn't deserve her. The story about him throwing her out naked in the cold winter night made me so angry. It's hard to believe in God and karma when you come across stories like this. He's still breathing, eating and sleeping well. Elaine's story broke my heart too. It hurts to watch that scene where she was manipulating her mom. But she was a victim of such a horrible ordeal. I am not clear if her father molested her or did he raped her but both are more than likely to do great damage to a person. She needs healing too. I pray that life can be kinder to Young-Ja and women like her.
