i don't love it or hate it, but i did want to love it when i saw that the premise was based on a "sex and the city" theme. unfortunately, i've seen so many korean dramas that attempt this but fail to be realistic. unless the typical korean girl in korea is as pathetic and needy as portrayed in these spin-offs, then maybe it's not so unrealistic.but all these dramas with all these extremes in character, either really raunchy of a character or really clueless, "innocent" the main character here is needy and pathetic. she's described as a girl that "speaks her mind" but i'm a bit lost. perhaps i speak my mind more assertively than the typical korean girl in korea but the female characters lack any appeal or spark. i'm watching this for the male characters' great acting, esp kim ji suk. i don't understand why they chose these female leads who can't act and look prepubescent. it's almost offensive, as if that's the ideal way to look for a woman in her 30s. one of the many things wrong with korean society
I am an avid drama fan and I was just about to reach my boiling point. Typical story lines: sappy unrealistic romance stories, cheating wives and husbands, first love, rich guy poor girl, swapped at birth, etc. Just when I was about to give up, I randomly came across this "drama" and within just a month or two, I went through Seasons 1-9 EASY. The whole point of watching television is to be entertained-through laughs, tears, in other words, issues that we can relate with. A drama like this that tackles everyday, mundane issues lays it all out there, raw and real. Although there aren't any highs and lows like a typical Korean drama, the acting and relatable story lines are impeccably showcased. I will admit you'll need some context to understand the subtext of Korean societal humor to fully enjoy this series. I'm hoping the translation is able to deliver the proper nuances at the very least. Either way, looking forward to seeing all 10 seasons up!!
