Biography

Flávia Alessandra, born in Arraial do Cabo on the 7th of June, 1974, is a Brazilian actress who has achieved national and continental notoriety through her participation in telenovelas. The daughter of a Navy Commander, she studied in a military school until age 16, at which age, and despite her good grades, she was expelled because of unruly behavior.

Having obtained a law degree in 1997, she was on the cusp of establishing her own office when she received an offer from the major network O Globo to perform in A Indomada. Her participation on the show propelled her career, and the next year she acted in Meu Bem Querer, then moving on to hold her first lead role in Porto dos Milagres. Her first major success as actress came in 2005, when she performed in Âlma Gemea at which point she became a national icon because of her talent and immense sensuality. The show also lead her to be awarded the best leading actress prize in the 2006 edition of Prêmio Contigo! de TV.

Although Flávia Alessandra had previously received offers to pose for Playboy magazine, it was only in 2006 that she agreed to do so, saying she had wanted a strong professional profile to endorse a sensual one instead of the opposite. The edition she appeared in was a success with 415,092 copies sold. Her most recent leading role came in 2007 in Duas Caras, for which she again won a Premio Contigo!, this time for best supporting actress.
