Biography

José Darcy Cardoso was born in Maracaju, Brazil on 1942 but grew up in Campo Grande. There he finished high school and also did military service. In 1963, José Darcy Cardoso moved to Sào Paulo where he studied journalism and worked in the newspaper called Folha de S. Paulo. He then dropped out from school and started to work for the cinema company Pam Filmes.

José debuted in the movie O Lamparina taking a small role and from there he did numerous amount of films like Cara a Cara, A Hora Mágica, and El color de pescado to name a few. Later on he became a producer/director and then founded his company Dacar Produçàµes Cinematográficas.
