The Idle Mermaid (잉여공주)

Starring and

Jo Bo Ah (Shut Up Flower Boy Band, Monster), Song Jae Rim (Our Gab Soon, Two Weeks) and Ohn Joo Wan (Beautiful Gong Shim) star in a modern spin on a classic fairy tale that proves true love is deeper than the depths of the ocean, and just as dangerous. Aileen (Jo Bo Ah) is a mermaid. In fact, she happens to be the eighteenth princess of the mermaid world. She has, however, fallen in love with Kwon Shi Kyung (Song Jae Rim), a successful celebrity chef she saves from drowning. To be with the man she is convinced she is in love with, Aileen dreams of becoming a human. Through a magical potion, she achieves her goal and, after becoming a human, seeks out the celebrity chef she shared a magical underwater kiss with. Sadly, Kwon Shi Kyung doesn’t recognize her and kicks her out of the party she had traced him to. Heartbroken, Aileen finds her way to the In Gyeo House, a place that prepares people looking to land their first jobs, under the new name Kim Ha Ni. But little does Ha Ni know, the potion has a secret curse: she must make a man fall in love with her within 100 days, or she can say goodbye to her recently-acquired status as human-- because she will explode into bubbles. That may not be too much of a task, usually, but Kwon Shi Kyung is as pragmatic a man as one will meet, and Ha Ni is therefore nothing but a distraction. Before she can focus on just her target of Kwon Shi Kyung, another complication of the heart arises in the form of Lee Hyun Myung (Ohn Joo Wan), a struggling artist trying to find a proper job now that his girlfriend has dumped him for being useless. Can our little mermaid find the love she needs to stay human, or will this fairy tale triangle not have a happy ending?
Adding to the drama are Witch Ahn Ma Nyeo (Cheese in the Trap alum Ahn Kil Kang), the grumpy wizard and former merman that helps Aileen through all her messes, and Yoon Jin Ah (critically-acclaimed rookie Park Ji Soo), Lee Hyun Myung’s ex-girlfriend and an intern who is now interested in Shi Kyung’s money and is working her way up the social ladder to reach him.
