Incomplete Life (Misaeng) (미생)

Starring and

ZE:A's Im Si Wan (Triangle, The Attorney) and Kang So Ra (Doctor Stranger, Dream High 2) star in an office drama that proves life doesn’t always follow our dreams, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Jang Geu Rae (Im Si Wan) has spent his life obsessed with the board game 'Go' (also known as weiqi, igo and baduk). Ever since he first touched a playing stone for the game at the age of seven, he has dreamed of nothing but becoming a professional Go player. Unfortunately, some unexpected circumstances arise and, as a result, Jang Geu Rae must give up on that dream. Courtesy of an associate’s recommendation, our heartbroken gamer manages to get a coveted internship at the famous company One International. Now as can be expected of someone who spent his life wishing for something completely different, Im Si Wan struggles to make his mark as a member of “Sales Team 3” at the company. And his own personal lack of motivation aside, other employees at the organization also hate him because they do not believe he has earned his position, having nothing more than a high school diploma. The only one who really cares enough to show him some sympathy, and whose kindness Jang Geu Rae is forced to rely relentlessly upon, is Ahn Young Yi (Kang So Ra), a reserved intern and superwoman who excels at everything. But as his problems seem to worsen, Jang Geu Rae realizes that the answers to his office challenges lie in the very rules and strategies he learned from playing Go. Can our once-dreamer learn to navigate the office like he does the intricacies of an ancient strategy game, or will this salaryman’s life always remain incomplete?
Adding to the drama are Oh Sang Sik (Miss Korea and Doctor alum Lee Sung Min), the section chief that is making our protagonist’s life extra difficult, and Jang Baek Hi (Scarlet Heart: Ryeo and Heirs heartthrob Kang Ha Neul) a wunderkind who is exponentially more qualified than Im Si Wan and who our gamer struggles to keep up with at every turn.

Also known simply as “Misaeng,” Incomplete Life is based on the webcomic of the same name by Yoon Tae Hoo. The adaptation is directed by Kim Won Suk, the versatile showrunner behind both dark hits such as Signal and Cinderella’s Sister, and lighter comedies like Sungkyunkwan Scandal. The screenplay is written by Jung Yoon Jung, who also performed screenwriting duties for Arang and the Magistrate. The first script reading for the drama took place in August 2014 at the CJ E&M; Center in Seoul, with filming beginning almost immediately after. Several of the staff and cast members traveled to film scenes in Amman, Petra, and Wadi Ram areas of Jordan in September, making the series the first Korean drama to be filmed on location in Jordan. The adaptation was also remade in Japan, and revisited the following year in an official parody production. The first episode of Incomplete Life debuted on October 17, 2014 on tvN, with future episodes airing every Friday and Saturday at 8:30PM, and the finale airing on December 20, 2014 for a total run of 20 episodes.
