Award-winning actress Bai Baihe and international star Wu Daniel Yin-Cho (Triple Tap) star in a comedy melodrama about one woman’s successful search for laughter in tragedy and hope in darkness. Xiang Yao, known to fans of her blog as Xiong Dun (Bai Baihe), is diagnosed with a malignant cancer. The doctors don’t give her any chances of living. With a limited amount of time, instead of simply giving up hope, Xiong chooses to remain optimistic and live the life she has left to its fullest. That, of course, includes fantasizing about her handsome clinician, Dr. Liang (Wu Daniel Yin-Cho), who she repeatedly hopes will ask her to take her clothes off for an examination, and who she also imagines starring in a Korean melodrama with. Plus, she also hangs out with her friends, a varied group that includes amateur boxer Lao Zheng (Cheng Yi), fashion junkie Xiao Xia (Lui Ruilin) and workaholic Amy (Zhang Zixuan), BFFs who are with her through everything. In addition to hanging out with her loved ones and being her equally lovable self, Xiong Dun also decides to start writing a webcomic based on her life. The notably optimistic and genuinely funny story becomes a sensation in China, makes Xiong Dun a household name, and brings hope and joy to millions around the world.
Go Away Mr. Tumor is directed by Han Yan, and written by Zhang Weizhong and Yuan Yuan. The film is based on the real-life story of Xiang Yao (pen name Xiong Dun), a webcomic author who earned fame for writing about her battle with cancer in a remarkably cheerful and lighthearted way on Weibo, inspiring many around the globe before passing away at the age of 30 in 2012. The film is produced by Wanda Pictures and distributed internationally by China Lion. Upon release, Go Away Mr. Tumor was critically acclaimed, even serving as China’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 88th Academy Awards. The movie was also a box office hit, earning $29.75 million in just its first weekend, and earning over $80 million during its theatrical run. Shot in Mandarin and filmed in Beijing, Go Away Mr. Tumor was released on August 13, 2015 and runs for 128 minutes.
