A genius surgeon with a flair for romance and a scarred past moves two struggling doctors away from the operating table manual and teaches them the true value of saving a life.
Doctor RomanticStarring Han Suk Kyu and Yoo Yun Suk
Han Suk Kyu (The Berlin File) , Seo Hyun Jin (Another Oh Hae Young) and Yoo Yun Suk (Jeju Island Gatsby, Answer Me 1994) star in a medical drama that proves no matter how intelligent you are, there is always a teacher who can make you someone better. Boo Yong Joo (Han Suk Kyu) is a genius surgeon. Years ago, he was the resident miracle worker at Seoul’s top hospital, and known to those in the field as the "Hand of God." One day, without any notice, he disappeared. Fast forward a few years later, and Boo Yong Joo is now at a small provincial clinic, donning the name Teacher Kim, and is known as the self-proclaimed "Romantic Doctor." Having been scarred by those he allowed to get close, Boo Yong Joo now enjoys a life of seclusion. However, because of his good nature and immense knowledge, the genius surgeon cannot help but mentor other struggling doctors. These include Kang Dong Joo (Yoo Yun Suk), an easily-irritable but brilliant man who only became a doctor to win someone over and seeks only the most important of VIP patients to achieve success and overcome and his poor past, and Yoon Seo Jung (Seo Hyun Jin), a passionate and diligent young woman who is haunted by a mistake from her past and only became a doctor to win someone’s recognition. The romantic doctor, however, has a different plan for each of them and, through his scarred but optimistic view of life, wants to teach them the true value of saving lives. But when the pupils are decidedly pragmatic and the master a hopeless romantic, can the teacher take his disciples away from biology and put a little Humanity 101 on the syllabus?
Alternatively known as, "Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim", Doctor Romantic is directed by veteran Yu In Sik (Mrs. Cop, You Are All Surrounded) and written by Kang Eun Kyung (Gu Family Book). Prior to its release, the series earned publicity for being touted as a realistic medical drama boasting greater accuracy than any such work of fiction that came before it, even requiring its lead actors to do an intensive study in the field of medicine to prepare for their roles. The first script reading for the drama took place on September 13, 2016 at the SBS Ilsan Production Studios in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. Originally, the role of the female lead was offered to Im Soo Jung (Lump of Sugar, Finding Mr. Destiny), but ultimately went to Seo Hyun Jin. Doctor Romantic will debut on SBS on November 7, 2016, with subsequent episodes airing every Monday and Tuesday at 10:00PM, overtaking the time slot vacated by the finale of Scarlet Heart: Ryeo. The drama is expected to run for a duration of 16 episodes, with a finale airing some time in January 2017.
The extended cast for Doctor Romantic includes Han Suk Kyu as Teacher Kim, Yoo Yun Suk as Kang Dong Joo, Seo Hyun Jin as Yoon Seo Jung, Im Won Hee as Jang Gi Tae, Jin Kyung as Oh Myung Shim, Kim Hong Pa as Yoo Woon Young, Kim Min Jae as Park Eun Tak, Byun Woo Min as Nam Do Il, Kim Jung Young as Dong Joo's mother, Choi Jin Ho as Do Yoon Wan, Jang Hyuk Jin as chief surgeon, Tae In Ho as Dr. Moon, and Yoon Chan Young as young Dong Joo, with supporting roles by Yang Se Jong and Yoon Na Moo.
