Intrigue, heroics, and sea adventures fill this tale of a man who rises from slave to lord of the seas. Emperor of the Sea is a grand, explosive epic that tracks real-life historical figure Jang Bo Go who rose from unknown origins to become one of the most powerful men in Korea. The famous series dominated the ratings, holding the number-one spot in Korea for the majority of its 51 episodes, and launched Song Il Gook (A Man Called God, Jumong) and Soo Ae (9 End 2 Outs, Athena) on their careers.

Born a slave on the docks of Cheonghae, Jang Bo Go (Choi Soo Jong) loses his mother to pirates at a young age. Taken to China and sold as a gladiator-slave, he works his way upward through wits and daredevil cunning. Becoming best friends with the charismatic Yeom Jang (Song Il Gook), the two are trained in martial arts by an old master. Jang Bo Go becomes a military commander and then a sea merchant waging war with pirates for ultimate command of the seas.
